Furnaceface - Let It Down cassette ~ self-released - 1990 ~ 1st press with colour cover /? Here's a post that is likely to only apply to Canadians (and maybe a few Americans). This is the debut cassette-only release from Ottawa's Furnaceface. IMO, they don't really get enough respect these days, even in their hometown. But the truth is, these guys really helped put Capital City on the map back in the early to mid 90s, and they deserve another look- not only for their impact, but just for their talented songwriting in general.
I could imagine someone who has never heard the band putting one of their records on and not being sure what to think. To be honest, it does challenge the listener- throwing down a pretty unique combo of alternative rock, funk, and pop punk. This, combined with the lyrical references they make in their songs, almost make the band a bit of a (untintentional, I'm sure) musical time capsule. Their following LP, "Just Buy It" really broke the band, even giving them U. S. college radio play for the single "We Love You Tipper Gore" and its focus on the censorship issues of the time. But their focus was quite broad, with the 3-piece often providing sarcastic commentary on things such as racism, body image and unjust salary schemes among others. Though this may seem to be a demo, as it was only released on cassette, it acts more as a debut LP. With 13 songs and better production than they typical demo... it's a pretty cool listen. It's pretty unlikely these days that you'll find one of these in top condtion, if at all. Thankfully, there is an upload on Youtube if you want to take a look at a piece of Ottawa punk history.

Tapes are here to stay and we got our own tape for the first time in almost 20 years. ... Catalepsis is a 5 piece grindcore/hardcore band from Quezon province (Philippines) formed in 1997. The demo was recorded in 2000 we did several shows/gigs until 2006 Opened for few touring bands like Container Crusties from Hell, (Fra) Demisor (S’pore) and S.O.L (Germany), Pack (Swi). This was the only recorded material we were able to record out of our own pocket. Currently members are with different bands namely ChokeCocoi, Riyerta, Sakit Sistema, Hemaphobic Splatter to name a few. ... Thanks to the initiative and help from our friend Neil of Think Positive Recs. for making this possible. Get this directly from them it will be available at this year’s WasFest. #catalepsis#demotape#cassette#cassettetape#grindcore#hardcore#powerviolence#farsouthresistance
i think this tape is evidence of the mandella effect...i only remember katrina and the waves having one hit, not so many that the band could narrow 10 or so songs out of their catalog and call them 'greatest'
