  • You know that horse that walks their round on automatic pilot. That doesn’t need guidance to do something good? It’s amazing sometimes but it can change to frustration. Let me tell you about it. 🗣
-
When I was 11 y/o I got Eastern. He was a schoolmaster and would always carry me around and ride his round. Which was good at the time it made me more confident in the saddle because I could trust him to help me when I was scared. But eventually I got older and my riding improved because Eastern taught me to grow. That leaded to me asking him bigger exercises and to taking over the automatic pilot. The biggest disagreement started. Eastern was so used to the automatic pilot that he was not willing to let me lead. Rearing, bucking, standing still etc. 👨🏻‍✈️🐎

When Topshot came into the picture and started riding him there was no automatic pilot. The smallest things needed to be thought of while riding him. Otherwise you would ride squares, straight lines only and his head up like a giraffe. Till this day Topshot doesn’t have an automatic pilot. Riding him is super confronting for yourself and your seat. Not giving the right aids? Then Topshot will let you know by showing the wrong thing. It’s hard work to ride him properly but it’s a real gift when you finish a good ride with him. 🎁

And that’s what helped for Eastern and me. We were both so used to the automatic pilot and I started to ask bigger exercise while I never had the full control. We completely started from zero. Inside leg, inside rein, teaching myself when to use the aids. It opened so much doors for us. And the most important thing we agreed with eachother. 🙌🏻

Same goes for life. Don’t live on automatic pilot. Learn every detail and get full control little by little. Because knowledge is better then demanding. 💭

  • Oh, hello. The Ears here! I’ve been left in charge of the Insta-ma-gram, whilst Claire is away on holiday for a couple of weeks, and I’d like your help! Apparently, no one wants to see my collection of old shoes, or bailing twine from my days in the Army, so what is an old donkey to post?! Suggestion on a postcard (or, you could just write them below...). Most grateful, The Ears xx

  • This little big man.
Oh how much i love him. My sweetest little baby, Odin.
I can't imagine our "herd" without him.
He is such a character, he completed our lives.
I'm very curious how he will react to the big gentle giant Dyce 🙈
But Odin will always be the biggest of them all haha!

Wie gaan er volgende keer met ons mee?

  • Frei wie der Wind!⁣
Selten habe ich ein Team gesehen, dass sich auf offener Wiese ohne Zügel⁣
so frei bewegt.

  • This horsearmor has been made by the Innsbruck armorer Konrad Seusenhofer in ca. 1505 for duke Friedrich II of Liegnitz and Brieg. The etchings are made by the Augsburg artist Daniel Hopfer. The horsearmor is located in the @dhmberlin (inv. W 81.5) while the associated armor for the duke himself now is preserved in Moscow, as far as I know in the historic museum, but since then has not been on display. The now as a replacement to the horse armor assigned armor was also made in Innsbruck at the beginning of the 16th century and has already been described in an earlier post. The shaffron has metal protectors for the ears, which can be attached and removed with hooks. The eyes are also protected with riveted metal arches. On the escutcheon is the coat of arms of the owner etched, with the eagle of Lower Silesia and the chessboard pattern of Legnica. The crinet is made out of nine lames with etched and gilded wolf tooth patterns on the sides. Etched bands with flame patterns run around the rivets. Also on the heavy saddle there are etched wolf tooth patterns. Around peytral and crupper there is the hallmarked and etched motiv of a wooden fence attached. This horse's armor is, in particular, together with the preserved armor of the Duke, an outstanding and very rare example of a particularly elaborate armor from the beginning of the 16th century. The complete horsearmor with the saddle weights 109 lbs (49400 g). #armor #armour #horsearmor #shaffron #rytir #rüstung #renaissance #chevaliers #cavaliere #knight #ritter #medieval #mittelalter #medievalarmor #arthistory #metalart #metalwork #pferderüstung #armurecheval #armatura #cavallo #horse #cheval #etchings #metaldecor

  • Equestrians often spend too much time focusing on what the horse is useful for, getting them to ‘do’ things for them. Whilst that can be fun, sometimes horses get fed up with wanting to be used all the time, and many are so sensitive they will fight to feel some relief, then labelled bad, mean or naughty. Sometimes all they want to do is just “be” with you like a friend. To just commune in the sun. It’s nice to spend some time with your horse doing nothing but enjoying each other as you are with no expectations. We should be much more considerate of their body and their dignity. They are not motorbikes, they are feeling creatures who don’t like to be whipped around all the time. They want you to show them some love, gentleness, quietness, regard and calm friendliness. Fellow equestrians, don’t take your horse for granted. Don’t get frustrated at them when they don’t understand. Help them realise that they can associate humans with joy and fun, not fear, tension and anxiety. Many equestrians act towards their horses as if they’re in the army, rather than in a playful and pleasurable way. Cherish them, for we are lucky to have them. Horses are one of the most forgiving animals in the world and for thousands of years have been considered sacred. #horsesofinstagram #equestrian #equestrians #horseworld #horselove #horselife #horse #horses #horsey #mares #angloarab #arabian #thoroughbred #mare #maresofinstagram #cavallo
