  • Listen to Her: a mini-festival continues today with the opening of Asylum at 3:30! Then, another performance of The Saint at 7:30!

Asylum, written and performed by Cherry Collective Member Elizabeth-lisa Mozer, is based on stunning true events connected to the deserted Binghamton psychiatric hospital known as “The Castle.” In a work that she has performed across the US, Mozer weaves together over six decades the lives of a Polish immigrant, three hospital inmates, and a woman following the clues to her past. This original movement-infused drama draws from personal accounts, historical documents, and imaginings to explore the shifting definitions of mental health and to bring marginalized voices to life. The Cherry Artists Collective presents Asylum on the heels of a sold-out, held-over run at the United Solo Theatre Festival in New York City.

October 24 - November 3, get your tickets now at TheCherry.org🍒
The festival includes:

Asylum, written and performed by Elizabeth Mozer (center), is based on an amazing true story of a patient at the now-deserted psychiatric hospital in Binghamton known as “The Castle.” In a work that she has performed across the US, Mozer follows the stories of six patients, real and invented, over six decades, drawing in part from asylum records. Asylum brings marginalized voices to life and explores the shifting definitions of “fitness to function in society”. Mozer will bring this work to the Cherry Arts directly from a run at the United Solo Theatre Festival in New York City.

The Belle of Amherst is a beloved classic about the iconic, reclusive poet Emily Dickinson. The play draws from Dickinson's letters, diaries and poetry to paint a complex and joyful portrait of one of the great American women artists. Ithaca College acting professor Kathleen Mulligan (right) performs an indelible Emily in a vibrant reimagining by director Norm Johnson. The Belle of Amherst will perform at the Cherry Artspace directly from a run at the American University in Beirut.

The English-language and US Premiere of The Saint brings the work of beloved Argentine playwright Santiago Loza back to the Cherry stage, starring Jennifer Herzog (Left)under the direction of Amina Omari. Currently in the eighth year of its hit run in Buenos Aires, this funny, delicate, and dramatic tale follows the spiritual and emotional journey of an unforgettable young woman.
Over two thrilling weekends, Listen To Her will fully encompass the Cherry Collective mission: radically local, radically global, formally innovative. Experience all three!

  • We are bringing back Storm Country by special request on Sunday October 6 at 11am! There are just 8 slots left to experience this one-off revival of Ithaca's very first exploration in the emerging form of headphone walking theatre.
Tickets: TheCherry.org

Storm Country immerses audiences in a world of voices, music, and environmental sounds as they travel among the ghosts of Ithaca's West End. Inspired by Ithaca-based turn-of-the-century novel "Tess Of The Storm Country," Storm Country interweaves strands of Tess' melodrama with the hidden histories of the neighborhood where they happen, and explores issues that remain as vital in today's Ithaca as they are in the novel: finding home and being denied it, trespassing and the need for security, the power of the water to transform and be transformed.

Storm Country is a unique theatrical experience which involves a walk of about one mile over the course of 75 minutes, punctuated with several stops along the way to sit.

You'll meet a Cherry staff member at Lookout Point on the Erie Barge Canal, at the tip of Ithaca's Inlet Island (park at the Boatyard Grill restaurant). You'll be given an MP3 player and other materials to take with you on your journey. (Please feel free to bring your own stereo headphones or earbuds, if you'd like to.) The walk culminates at 102 Cherry Street on the Cayuga Inlet. From there it's about a 15-minute walk back to the starting point.

The Missing Chapter by Katie Marks & Aoise Stratford an original “headphone walking-play” based on Ithaca's silent film past which premiered in 2018. Produced in collaboration with Wharton Studio Museum, the Missing Chapter was the recipient of a 2019 Historic Ithaca Preservation Award! Narrated by the late, beloved Camilla Schade. It runs October 11-13 and walks begin at the Picnic "Large" Pavilion every 15 minutes.

The Missing Chapter introduces audiences to Wharton Studio heroine Beatrice Fairfax, advice columnist for the lovelorn... and amateur sleuth. As Beatrice solves crime in the heady days of the women’s suffrage movement, we stroll Stewart Park and investigate “missing chapters” in the history of our own community.

Audience members who participated in Storm Country, The Cherry’s original headphone walking-play, will recall the thrill of traversing Ithaca by foot while being immersed in a theatrical experience like no other. Get your The Missing Chapter tickets now!
