  • Okay this morning was rough!!!
.
Waking up was all messed up and we had a ton to clean up from the night before so our routine was WWAAAYYY off... which that just drains my energy and makes it so hard for me to get going!
.
None the less things still must be done!!
So braids and my favorite shirt it is!
.
I needed the reminder that “I’m the boss!”
I’m in control!
Sure I can choose to do nothing and sleep all day BUT what does that get me in the end?!?! Who does that help in the end!?!?!
.
It’s time to get to it! Make the hard decisions! And GET WORK DONE!
Because IM THE BOSS of my own life, my choices, and my future!!
.
P.s. you are too! 😘

  • As I've grown older, I've realized more and more how many people don't have true friendships.
.
I think part of the problem is time. It’s true that we are all busy. But, when we have time, we tend to use it for other things…and a lot of times, I find that it’s things like Instagram, FaceBook, YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, etc…
.
Yes, streaming can feel relaxing and social media can feel like connecting. But, they’re also killing our relationships. Pay attention next time you're out in public and look at how many people are on their cell phone while they are with someone else who they could be talking to instead.
.
While on vacation, I’ve enjoyed reading Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport. Thanks @elizbienas for the recommendation! I think he makes some great points. We have too much social media, too many apps, too many distractions. We’ve lost the art of spending time in solitude. We replace quality time with texts, “likes” and comments on posts. We don’t know how to truly rest and relax.
.
Though Cal doesn’t use social media, and does suggest deleting our accounts if at all possible, he does give some great tips for setting up boundaries if you plan to stay online.
.
I, for one, know that I feel like a real person when I spend more time offline. The days when I’m too busy to be online usually leave me feeling more confident and productive. For instance, if I tidy the house and have my quiet time, take Lucy on a walk, join my friends for yoga, visit my mom and read on her porch, come home to make dinner and go for a bike ride with Nick that night, while only taking roughly an hour online to get my work done at some point during the day, I feel refreshed and go to bed contentedly tired.
.
But, by using social media, I also have connected with friends all over the world and built a successful small business. So, I’m not up for deleting all my accounts either.
.
Like with anything else, I think we have to find a balance. Social media isn’t bad. Netflix isn’t bad. But we can use them badly. I’m excited to be more intentional with both my time online and offline and see where physical life takes me as I set boundaries with my digital life.
