Remembering that time in 2016 when @lbreeks, @misswinniepoo and I had already had two Christmases by this stage of the year, the one where @lbreeks really didn’t like the way her hair had been done and then the reshoot in my kitchen when @lbreeks was cheesed off because I got to wear the sparkly top and she didn’t. The one where the Christmas decorations turned out to be 40th wedding anniversary decs...But we don’t mention that. Missing my little Christmas elves! Mit dem tollen Motivpapier und dem neuen Stempel von #beemybear sind am Wochenende meine ersten Weihnachtskarten entstanden, die ich selbst versenden werde.

내내 잔잔하고 찬찬하지만 감정은 깊게 전해지는 영화. 비오는 날 함께 쓴 우산 아래에서의 어색하고 쑥스러운 공기며 팔짱을 꼈을 때 멈칫하는 모습에 슬며시 웃음짓기도 하고, 차분히 마지막을 준비하던 정원이나 내내 그를 기다리던 다림에 마음 찡해지기도 한다. 조금은 촌스러워도 어떤 세련된 영화보다 오래 마음에 남을 것 같은 기분.
이제는 추억 속에만 남아 있는 90년대 풍경도 소박하고 따뜻하다. 손님에게 아이스크림을 건네며 말을거는 정원은 병원에서 마주친 아이와 멀리서 메롱하며 장난을 치고, 골목길에서 마주친 동네 사람들과는 정겹게 인사를 나눈다. 여름이면 손수건으로 땀을 닦고 수박을 먹을 때 빼먹을 수 없는 씨 멀리뱉기, 저녁식사를 준비할 때 “파 좀 뽑아와라.”하는 심부름까지. 그 풍경 속에서 숨쉬던 정 많고 순한 사람들과 그때의 포근한 공기가 그리워진다.

사랑한다, 좋아한다라는 직접적인 표현이 없이도
서로를 생각하는 애틋한 마음이 표현되고
자극적인 장면 없이도 정원의 죽음을 보여줘서
눈물이 떨러지게 만드는 정말 잘 만든 영화였다
아름답고도 아름답고 먹먹하고 또 생각하면 울컥한 영화
땅작을 영화관에서 볼 수 있다니 정말 너무 좋았다😍

Films from 1998, 2001, 2005, and 2007. A mixed bag here. I don't really care for April snow or one fine spring day. However Christmas in August is one of my favourite Korean films ever made (it's also another important film for Korean cinema) and happiness is a fantastic film as well.

8월의 크리스마스라는 모순적인 제목은 두 사람의 마지막을 환상적으로 마무리했다. 우리가 기다리는 건 단지 12월 25일이 아니다. 크리스마스엔 소원이 이뤄진다고 했다. 시한부 인생에게 기적 같은 사랑이 찾아오면, 그때가 바로 크리스마스다. 시한부 인생의 서사를, 우연처럼 다가온 사랑을 결코 과하지 않게 그렸다. 때론 답답하기까지 했던 이 느린 사랑 이야기는 필름사진관이란 배경과 더해져 하나의 완벽한 이미지가 됐다. 끝끝내 속시원히 전해지지 않는 마음이라도 이 정도의 감성이라면 상관없다. 20년이 훌쩍 지났어도 압도적인 담담함이다.
