• Colorway plates have been added to the shop •
I had several requests to stock these sooner than next months shop, and because I have many extra after the preorder (I always make many more than needed to assure all come out suitably) I thought I might as well.
So if you’re one of the folks waiting for this post, they’re up and ready for you! X
Ps. There’s a matching mug to these plates coming out tomorrow to my newsletter subscribers. Sign up for the newsletter to get the access code for the Studio Patron Store tomorrow at 3:30pm pst (and a discount code for the mug update!). .
SHOP OPENS SATURDAY 29 FEBRUARY- 9:30am PST.

Beakers in three states. Bone dry and fragile behind, yet to be fired to 1000ºc in my electric kiln so that the clay becomes absorbent and strong. A light squeeze would shatter the pot at this stage.
Then, in the middle, a bisque fired version coated in a white feldspathic glaze. It goes on thick but will soften down considerably once this layer of powder changes into glass.
The brilliant white also softens, becoming somewhat translucent and grey and almost black in places where carbon was trapped during the final glaze firing. Some pots stay more uniformly white, whereas others appear like this, with a band of black around the rim. There’s never any telling where black dots might appear though, these are pulled to the surface through the reduction process and only a few ever break through thee white, if you look closely you’ll see many more specks clouded over, melted within the glaze or underneath it.
From freshly thrown to finally fired these shrink about 12.5%, it’s enough to make a difference if you were to throw without taking this into consideration and your pots might end up smaller than you imagined. When making taller and larger forms it becomes more and more noticeable, such as with my tall cylindrical vases, they’re packed tightly into the kiln with perhaps only a few millimetres of space above them, yet when you unpack them there’s a good inch or more.

Inside the castle of Saryazd, in Iran. The town was the final stopping point on the silk road route on the way to Yazd, hence its name in Persian: "head of Yazd". The fortress was constructed during the Sassanid era, sometime between the third and seventh centuries CE and is made of adobe. The castle was used as a safebox in the case of invasion, in which the residents could store valuables such as gold and jewels as well as other items such as food or grain.
