Okay, so this is something I got really excited about, and was eager to share with ya’ll!
Now, I’m not one to go researching about specific things just for the sake of doing so, I’ll learn based off of my experiences. These pictures capture an experience that sparked a curiosity to learn some pretty interesting things that I had never considered. While photographing a garden full off flowers called Siberian Squill, I noticed that these bees collecting pollen from them had blue pollen baskets, which is something I had never seen before! I’m sure everyone who owns a vehicle is familiar with the yellow pollen that collects on your windshield in the summertime. My whole life I assumed that all pollen was various shades of yellow and orange, which is undoubtably the most common of colors, however this flower belongs to a small group of just three species that produces a distinct blue color! I was awestruck and dumbfounded. Later that day I was reviewing the photos I took, and I came across this picture (referring to the first photo in the series of three) and noticed that I had captured this honey bees tongue. Which, for a bee, is far more than just that; a tongue. I’m not going to get into all the specifics, but there are six parts included in the makeup of a honey bees mouth, each of which is responsible for handling a separate task. Perhaps the most distinct, and visible of the six, are the Proboscis and Labium working together to act like a straw used to drink liquids like nectar. While it’s usually tucked inside of its body, their tongue can reach up to 1/4 of an inch (7mm) in length. That’s roughly half the length of their body! How long would your tongue be if it were half your height?
Is this real life? A secluded hot spring at the base of a small waterfall with no one around? This was the best way to start the morning! Ran into a couple photographers shooting sunrise here and once they left we had this place all to ourselves. We had tried visiting hot water beach and couldn't believe how many people were there so I'm glad we got to have some peace and quiet here. Such a unique place, need to search for more of these! I'm pretty sure my feet have been pruny ever since though 😂
