Last week, criminologists Daniel Nagin of @heinzcollege and Christopher Koper of @georgemasonu led the @nfsgov-sponsored workshop “An Evidence-Based Approach to Understanding and Countering Mass Violence in America.” Check out the link in our Instagram bio to learn more about the discussions, which included criminologists and law enforcement professionals from across the country sharing strategies for combatting #MassShootings in the U.S.
I went to school with Sol Pais. Although I didn't know her on a personal level, she was a classmate and a very intelligent woman. It's heartbreaking how everything went down, but I hope to spread her truth. Please, check the link in my bio and share around any social media or friends you may have. I am on a search to meet others who know her, so I can further spread who she really was. #solpais#sol#columbine#colorado#suicide#depression#mentalhealthawareness#depressed#sad#anxiety
On January 29, 1979, 16-year-old Brenda Ann Spencer from the window of her house in San Diego, fired thirty-six shots at the children who were standing near the school. The girl, who had no special skill in shooting, hit eight children, one policeman and two passers-by who were trying to save the children. It was these pedestrians who died, the rest were injured. Then the girl barricaded herself in the house and did not go out for seven hours. She surrendered to the police after long negotiations. When they asked her why she did it, she replied: “I just started shooting, that's all. I did it just like that, for the sake of laughter. I just don’t like Mondays. And so - at least some entertainment. No one likes Mondays ". Because of the seriousness of the crime, Brenda, a minor, was tried as an adult and sentenced to life imprisonment with the right to petition for clemency after 25 years. She was denied parole four times. She can write the next petition this year.
Probably the most peaceful place I’ve ever gone live from.

20 years since #Columbine - it’s time to say #enoughisenough #Repost@amnestyusa
Tomorrow is the 20th anniversary of the mass shooting at Columbine High School. Our hearts are with the families of Columbine - and the victims and survivors of so many tragedies since.
Mass shootings in America continue at a frightening pace. Background checks save lives, and could help put an end to gun violence.I t’s past time for Congress to do what 90% of Americans want: require background checks for every gun purchase in America.
On May 6 @amnestyusa activists will press the Senate to finally mandate background checks for every gun purchase made in America - no exceptions. #endgunviolence#universalbackgroundchecks#humanrights

Emotions are high these days, and many are falling into dangerous ideologies. We express our frustrations with the Law of Attraction, and how the focus and intention one may learn from it should be repurposed to create a better experience for all of mankind, not just oneself.
Inspired by Daryl Davis and Christian Picciolini, we look beyond the hate to observe the loneliness and fear that leads to all kinds of extremism. Narrowly escaping many of these pitfalls early in life ourselves, we reflect on the moments when we were made aware of life’s true complexity, and how we learned to accept it all unconditionally.
“Rufus: …humanity took a good idea and, like always, built a belief structure on it.
Bethany: Having beliefs isn't good?
Rufus: I think it's better to have ideas. You can change an idea. Changing a belief is trickier... “

Emily Dickinson wrote in to her friend Abiah Root in 1848, “There were several pleasure parties of which I was a member, and in our rambles we found many and many beautiful children of Spring, which I will mention and see if you have found them—the trailing abutus, adder’s tongue, yellow violets, liver leaf, blood root and many other small flowers” .
Today at Bartholomew’s Cobble, I saw adder’s tongue, hepatica, blood root, spring beauty, wake robin, dutchman’s breeches, saxifrage in bloom, and early meadow rue, blue cohosh, and columbine in bud. .
J'te prends que si t'es sur ma route, mi amor
