  • La Jicama o el nabo mexicano.  Dicen que es el mismo Yacón, pero lo dudo.  Fue  Otras de las cosas desconocidas para mi y que les cuento de que se trata.  La comen en la calle  con limon, sal y obvio 🌶 chilecito.  Bajas en calorías 👍  Es otra que al principio no convence, pero no puedes parar de comer.  La usan en ensaladas, sopas  y muchas recetas,  y hasta frita como las papas, es definitivamente demasiado versátil.  Si van no dejen de comerla. .
Literatura 🤓 
Este tubérculo poco conocido es cultivado en los climas cálidos de Centroamérica, el Caribe, las regiones de las montañas de los Andes y el sur de Asia, donde es una fuente alimenticia importante y extremadamente versátil. Muy similar en textura a un nabo y con un sabor más similar a una manzana, la jícama comparte los apodos de “castaña de agua mexicana” y “habichuela de ñame mexicana” sin duda por su carne crujiente, blanca y sólida.   • Putting our spotlight on the very talented, Toni Ross! Born and raised in New York City, Toni attended Wesleyan University where she studied ceramics and the arts, and graduated with a BA in Film Studies. Her lifetime interest in the visual arts took her to Italy where she absorbed the great traditions of the Renaissance and the Middle Ages while painting and sketching in museums, piazzas and the countryside. Since then, her practice has evolved to include works in sculpture, drawing and painting; her focus on stoneware dates to 1997. Toni curated and was responsible for gathering all the local artists that helped create our Coche Comedor tables. We couldn't do it without YOU!

  • While planning a visit to see a friend in DC, I requested two things: tacos (of course 💁🏻‍♀️) and  to avoid all things T***p. Well, I got my first wish! Alas, we couldn’t entirely avoid the red hat wearing crowd. I still had a lovely visit, thanks to my fellow LA amigo/taco misser. We went to @elsol. I wasn’t sure what to expect, since the Mexican food scene in NYC is ☹️ but I was pleasantly surprised! 😃

We were off to a good start when they brought FREE chips and salsa (as is usually the case in most Mexican restaurants in LA!), they were fresh and tasty. De antojito, we started with guacamole para la mesa (mesa mesa que más aplauda eeeeeeyyyy!). It was so good and actually spicy. My friend had enchiladas de mole which were SO GOOD. The mole was super flavorful. Boo had taquitos de pollo which were okay, nothing to shout about. We shared a pambazo de chorizo which was also good. I mean, chorizo, frijoles, queso fresco, and bread - what’s not to like? I ordered three tacos: asada, carnitas, and al pastor, which came with all the fixins + salsa roja y verde 😋

Overall, these tacos get a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars out of 5. The carnitas was the best, followed by the al pastor and the asada last.  The carnitas and al pastor were really well seasoned, the meat was high quality, and the tortillas were cooked to a perfect, crispy texture. The portions at this spot are reasonably sized and priced. No complaints on the service. I would definitely come back to @elsoldc and recommend it to others! Don’t miss out on the enchiladas de mole and tacos de carnitas. This cute lil spot has all the makings of a good Mexican restaurant:
