  • 🚩 #BIERWISSEN 🔎  Malz – ein Begriff, den die meisten Menschen mit Bier verbinden, jedoch nur selten erklären können, was es genau meint. Der Begriff Malz oder vermälztes Getreide meint zum Keimen gebrachtes Getreide, das vorrangig zum Bierbrauen verwendet wird. Dabei lässt sich fast jedes Getreide zu Malz verarbeiten. Am bekanntesten ist wohl das Gerstenmalz – das zugleich das meist verwendete Braugetreide weltweit ist. Doch auch Weizen, Roggen, Hafer oder Dinkel lassen sich vermälzen. 
Hergestellt wird das Malz meist direkt in einer Mälzerei – kaum eine Brauerei vermälzt selbst ihr Getreide. Den Prozess des Vermälzens teilt man in drei Stufen: das Weichen, das Keimen und das Darren. Das geerntete Getreide, das die Landwirte an die Mälzereien liefern, wird zunächst gereinigt und bis zu 3 Tage lang in Wasser geweicht. Anschließend wird das Getreide bei circa 12-15°C zum Keimen gebracht. Durch das Keimen werden Enzyme, die sogenannten Amylasen, im Getreide freigesetzt und die Stärke wird in Malzzucker umgewandelt. The final brew here today is a great 4.75% Berliner with Black Elderberry German syrup. It pours a deep purple with a jammy nose, it’s tart and super sweet up front, tons of juicy dark fruit, it’s balanced and crushable with a sugary, jam-like finish. Bomb.

Another wacky, zany brew, this 4.75% Berliner is brewed with, you guessed it, Lucky Charms marshmallows. It’s clear with a sweet nose, fizzy and sherbety, the marshmallows are immediately evident with tons of vanilla and a creamy mouthfeel, balanced sour vibes with a dusty, sweet finish. Interesting af.

Now we’re getting into the fun and weird stuff. This is a 6.1% Gose conditioned with over 3 pounds of Airheads candy per barrel. It’s a doozy. It’s clear with a salty nose, tons of fizzy sherbet vibes, it’s super salty, tangy and mildly tart, the candy vibe is intense af, I love the concept but this won’t be for everyone. I really enjoyed this bad boy.

This is a mouth watering juicy little hop monster with 2 of my favourite hops! it’s got balls, it’s Creamy, juicy, thick, fresh pine, citrus, passion fruit, stonefruit , with a velvet mouthfeel 
Jesus what a monster.. this goes straight in my top 9 for the year.

Score: 🍑🍑🍑🍑🍑🍑🍑🍑🍑/10

    This is a mouth watering juicy little hop monster with 2 of my favourite hops! it’s got balls, it’s Creamy, juicy, thick, fresh pine, citrus, passion fruit, stonefruit , with a velvet mouthfeel
    Jesus what a monster.. this goes straight in my top 9 for the year.

A mega collab between 3 dope breweries, and an homage to one of the greatest rap albums of all time. It’s a 5% wild ale aged in oak barrels with Brett and Pedio on kumquats and mangoes, it’s clear and clean, balanced, subtle fruit vibes, tangy, no tartness, a touch dusty with a dry, smooth finish. Well done. Prolly my fave of the day.

#TeamLactose in the building. This doesn’t specifically purport to be a MIPA but it’s def go those vibes. Sitting at 8.5%, this NEIPA (with no haze) is crystal clear with a strong orange nose, it’s a touch boozy, tons of vanilla, it’s fizzy and sherbety, very much like a creamsicle. I dig it.

This American IPA is 6.8%, pours slightly opaque, sweet malty nose, it’s bitter and piney with tropical and citrus vibes, hopped with Citra, El Dorado, Jarrylo and Pacific Gem, it’s clean and crisp with a dusty finish. Solid.

I’m not sure if this tastes a little odd right after the lager but the pils is mad different. It’s 5% and pours super opaque with a strange nose, it’s quite bitter and really dry, so much so that my tongue feels a little weird after each sip. It’s malty but there’s not a ton of flavour especially in comparison to the lager. Could be something wrong with it or perhaps I’m just not feeling it.
