In honor of #NationalParkWeek coming up & free park entry this Saturday, we're sharing the love for Crater Lake National Park with some of our favorite Crater Lake facts:
💧 At 1943 ft., Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the USA and the 9th deepest in the world
💧 Speaking of that water, it's so clear that you can see up to 100 ft. down
🌳 A 30-ft. log (the "Old Man of the Lake") has been floating upright in the lake for over a century
⛰ Wizard Island, pictured here, is actually the top of a volcanic cinder cone
What do you love about Crater Lake?

Happy Birthday Crater Lake #NationalPark ! Established in 1902, #CraterLake is one of our first national parks. Explore this breathtaking part of Oregon and witness the clear blue water of the deepest lake in the United States. Walk through old growth forest, learn of the eruption that sparked this wonder and marvel at this incredible place. Near the stunning Emerald acidic lakes in Tongariro Alpine Crossing National Park.
Crater Lake is the bluest blue my eyes have ever seen. Resting at the top of a collapsed volcano, Crater lake is the deepest lake in the US. So deep that when the sunlight is absorbed the only color that Can make its way back to your eyes is the color blue.

#CraterLake National Park’s birthday yesterday got me thinking about my trip there a few years back. It was one of my first solo road trips, and I remember so vividly walking up to the rim to catch my first glimpse of the lake. I had never seen a body of water that color before. Deep cerulean. And so still, like glass. It took my breath away. 💙 Anyone else have a favorite Crater Lake memory?
Established 117 years ago in 1902, Crater Lake National Park was one of the first national parks established in the United States by Theodore Roosevelt. He was the forefathers in conservation, designating 5 national parks during his presidency. Happy birthday Crater Lake National Park, here’s to many more generations of displaying your beauty. 🌋🌲
And apparently Crater Lake is celebrating a birthday too. Seeing that blue for the first time is one of the genuine WOW moments I've had out of all the national parks we've been to. You have to see it to believe it! #roadtripsareawesome#craterlake#2011wasalongtimeago
Miners Sunarto, 43, Supeno, 39, and Madrosin, 48, brace themselves from the acidic toxic fumes that blanket the mining site. The miners often protect themselves with only a rag covering their mouth, to help cope against the volcanic and sulfurous fumes. By hand they break apart the cooled sulfur with metal poles. They then fill their reed baskets and start the grueling ascent to the top of the crater, hauling loads of sulfur much greater than their own body weight. The dense yellow substance is then transported down the mountain, to be processed and is used for cosmetics, bleaching sugar, and a number of other products. The miners recognize the harshness of the of the environment, nevertheless they are hopeful to bring better living conditions to their families.
