  • How to Grow Saffron.!! Saffron is a unique and #deliciousspice that creates the signature flavour in many dishes, like #Spanishpaella and #bouillabaisse. Saffron is produced by the #crocusflower, which is easy to cultivate in hardiness zones 6-9. Unfortunately, each crocus bloom will only yield a minuscule amount of saffron each year, making saffron the most expensive spice in the world.

1. Cultivating Proper Conditions
2.
Find a planting location with well-draining soil and full sun.
3. Prepare the soil with organic matter.
4. Plant your corms in containers as an alternative.
5. Plant your crocus corms before the ground freezes.

Planting Your Corms
1. Place your crocus corms in clusters
2. Plant the corms 3–4 inches (7.6–10.2 cm) deep
3. Water your corms through the fall.

  • The only thing these make me think of is you, grandpa. I miss you every day. Finley and I have been out checking cows and feeding calves. She would’ve loved making these memories with you just as much as I did 💜 I hope you’re up there picking crocuses, cussing at cattle, and having a root beer on this beautiful spring day! Love and miss you always. #missyou #illalwaysloveyougrandpa #crocus #crocusflower #springishere #calvingisalmostover

“Working in the dimensions of photography, video, and installation, my work aims to create narratives that can transcend and complicate difference. Living in the US as a person that identifies as both Muslim & Christian, Iranian and American, I sometimes feel alienated by both groups as not being fully either. This feeling of constant displacement has led me to strive towards creating an environment or third space, that I can comfortably exist in and navigate. Through this comfortability and growth, I created the “Zaferan On My Tongue” photograph to further imagine this newly constructed space. Zaferan also known as Saffron in the English language. It comes from a Crocus flowers stigma (part of the female reproductive organ of the plant). Iran is currently the largest Zaferan producer in the world, accounting for over 90 percent of the global output. 🇮🇷 🇮🇷🇮🇷The Crocus flower only blooms for about a week every year and the crimson stigmas are plucked from each flower, by hand. Being the most expensive spice in the world Zaferan is known as the “Red Gold”.

  • Saffron, the most expensive spice in the world, is delicately hand-picked from the Crocus flower. 🌷 Thought to be spread across the subcontinent by an Indian Buddhist missionary, this spice has been used in Indian cuisine and culture since the 5th Century BC. 🧡

  • 📌These are the tips you will find on my blog, for each bulb, as soon as the article is ready.
•
Plant the crocuses in autumn. As a group but avoiding that the bulbs touch each other.
•
Calcareous, sandy, gravelly and well-drained soil. Ensure good drainage. They hate stagnant water. They love the rains. Keep the soil just damp.
•
The bulbs never bloom before 2 years.
•
They prefer areas between shade and sun. Not high temperatures. It also lives below zero.
•
Supply slow-release fertilizer immediately after planting the bulb. Once the flowering is over, cut only the yellow and dry leaves.
•
After 3 years the bulbs will have to be unearthed.
It is a mandatory operation to avoid killing the bulbs.
•
📌Questi sono i consigli che troverete sul mio blog, per ogni bulbo, appena sarà pronto l'articolo.
•
Piantiamo i crocus in autunno. In gruppo ma evitando che i bulbi si tocchino.
•
Terreno calcareo, sabbioso, ghiaioso e ben drenato. Assicuriamo un buon drenaggio. Odiano i ristagni d’acqua. Amano le piogge. Mantenere il terreno appena umido.
•
I bulbi non fioriscono mai prima dei 2 anni.
•
Preferiscono zone a mezz’ombra e al sole.
Temperature non elevate. Vive anche sotto lo zero.
•
Forniamo concime a lenta cessione subito dopo aver piantato il bulbo. Una volta finita la fioritura, tagliamo solo le foglie gialle e secche.
•
Dopo 3 anni bisognerà disotterrare i bulbi. E’ un’operazione obbligatoria per evitare di far morire i bulbi.
