  • 📍Floral Street, Covent Garden, London
.
Such a beautiful name for a beautiful street 🌸 I found a few other historic tidbits about this part of London which has had a very colourful history:
.
💐 Originally called ‘Hart Street’, the name was changed in 1895 to reflect the market trade, though it was mostly associated with its fruit market
.
🌹 In the 18th century the street was still a dead end and had no less than *eleven* pubs and lots of illegal brothels
.
🌺 These days Floral Street is known for more high-end shops and it was the location to the first ever Paul Smith store in 1979 (it’s still there, though it’s changed a bit over the years!)
.
Have a great Tuesday everyone 🖤

  • “The city is humankind’s most complex and extraordinary creation. It can be understood as a living organism. By their nature living organisms can die when mistreated, or starved of resources. Planned the right way it can support growing numbers of people and maintain its essence // - Deyan Sudjic

A short walk from Charni Road station brought me to this magical heritage village with Portugese-styled houses. These colourful houses and breezy by lanes had a different aura altogether, they seemed to be from a different time and space. A walk through these lanes was so refreshing, the same cannot be said of the busy crowded lanes of the rest of bombay. Cities were meant to be fulfilling spaces for humans to grow by interaction and absorption, today’s concrete blocks defy the basic concept of the city and finding such little nooks where the “new idea of development” has not taken over seems like the only reprieve //

  • It's great to have a witty, inspiring and informational caption... but sometimes, my mind just draws a blank. It's been a long day 😂😴⁣
⁣
And so for once, please enjoy a plain old pretty picture of the streets of London x ⁣

  • No idea what this building is but it reeks of Art Deco design...I imagine Bertie Wooster lived here and that his gentleman’s club was nearby

  • Olivia posting from 📍London:

Thought I would revisit an old classic after @michelinguide announced its new collection of 2020 stars in the UK. Not only is the @harwoodarms the only gastro pub with a star in London but they've retained it for the 10th year now. Congratulations to their team - it’s all well deserved.
I started my meal with the absolutely delicious lamb sweetbreads with barley, followed by a Cornish monkfish with English courgette and shellfish butter sauce.

  • A party box of pastel de nata from @cafedenata because anything less will never be enough! 🥳
My favourite was the apple and cinnamon but there was only one left! I also loved the chocolate flavour.. and you can’t really go wrong with the classic! 😋

  • I started my weekend by being a tourist in my own city at @madametussauds and spent most of the time getting irrationally angry at the other actual tourists who do not seem to understand the concept of queuing.

However, the highlight was truly the moment my mum spotted the giant figure of Hulk and exclaimed, "Look, it's Shrek!" Note: This was after I'd had my photo taken with actual Shrek. 🙃

Also, did you know I'm the same height as Kanye? Well, now you do.

  • My life seems pretty perfect, right? Viewed through Instagram all I seem to do is wander around beautiful parts of London, endlessly visit pretty restaurants and attend lovely parties ... if only that was the case.
✨
People often message me to say they wish they had my life. In reality I’ve recently experienced some very difficult years, filled with many disappointments.
My account is a means to share happy, uplifting photos because life is tough and pretty photos are a nice distraction.
However, it’s important to realise social media is not a complete view of a person’s life.
✨
What are your views on Instagram vs reality? Do you believe people’s Instagram accounts are a real reflection of their lives? Please let me know in the comments below.
