  • 11-15-2019- i recently watched a video called "the beauty of degraded media". the video talked about how far we have come in creating media through technology, and yet we are starting to go back to older forms of media (vinyl records, film photography, ect.) or adding filters to make things look/sound outdated. It talked about how the imperfections in those forms of media are what make them perfect. And that the those imperfections tell the stories of the media. It talked about how these flaws create space for nostalgia and “we want our media to feel lived in”. And in some ways it makes us feel like we’re home.

There are so many times in my daily project where I get caught up in making it perfect. I want the photos to have the right lighting or perfect composure. and when I start to get caught up in making my project perfect in those kind of ways, I lose my passion. This project becomes another chore.
And really, I want my project to feel lived in. I want people to look at my photos and feel like they’re holding family photos. i want people to look at my photos and decide to find the beauty in mundane, imperfect moments in their lives. I want people to capture and share those moments themselves, to let their media feel lived in. And really if I that doesn’t happen, I can say that I live a much happier life when I spend time making my imperfect mundane moments feel lived in and more like home.
So I’m spending less time worrying about that. And more time about how the day is going and how that reflects in my photos. And today we had a cozy night, and watched Star Wars. .
