  • Its raining today (and is pretty cold too). I decided to read research articles to help me cure my sadness😥 as ⚡️Mother Nature☔️ didn't want us to play music tonight. This article was mentioned in a talk by Dr. Hideho Okada (UCSF) on using T-cell based therapies for targeting brain tumors.⠀
.⠀
.⠀
This article discusses that the brain immune privilege is relative and not absolute. Only the brain parenchyma is absolutely immune privileged from the innate and adaptive immune systems (aka relatively isolated from the rest of the body’s immune system). However, immune reactivity of ventricles (where CSF is stored), choroid plexus (where CSF is made), meninges (layers that line the brain), and circumventricular organs is similar to the periphery (rest of the body).⠀
.⠀
.⠀
Also what’s cool is that in the brain the afferent arm of the immune system (the part of the immune system detecting bad stuff) is mostly via soluble route (aka lymph drainage to cervical lymph nodes and generation of humoral antibody response/B-cells). The brain parenchyma does not have dendritic cells like the peripheral body (cells that hang out like security)⠀
.⠀
.⠀
What I found super cool about this article (I did not know this before) is that most significant obstacle of T cells entry into brain parenchyma is apoptosis. (Apoptosis = clean cell death, not causing local inflammation. Contrast to necrosis, leading to local inflammation and local tissue damage. This is bad especially in the brain, an organ with poor regenerative capacity).⠀
.⠀
.⠀
.⠀
T-cells die by apoptosis when they try to enter the brain because in the central nervous system all cells express the fas ligand (a protein on their membrane) that induces apoptosis of all incoming fas-positive T cells. (T-cells that express the fas receptor that binds with the fas ligand).⠀
.⠀

▫️Clase I: molar o premolar.
▫️Clase III: Incisivos y caninos . .

  • 🇺🇸ADA DENTIST AND STUDENT LOBBY DAY 2019🇺🇸. •
This past week our students were a part of 1100 dental students and dental professionals from across the country that visited Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. to advocate for their patients, profession, and their practice. •
Issues they lobbied for included McCarran Ferguson Repeal for Health Insurance, reauthorization of the Higher Education Act, and the Ensuring Lasting Smiles ACT in support of treatment for children suffering from congenital anomalies and birth defects. •
Thank you to ASDA and the ADA for this incredible opportunity and for giving us a voice!! #toothparty @asdadistrict10
