  • 2018 has been a year of change. So much so that I haven’t always know what to say or to post. I want to be real but have held back a lot while I figure things out. Lately I’ve been channeling my creativity into making clothes. In my heart, I feel sad about consumerism and fast fashion and the myriad ways in which these things are destroying society and the planet. We all need clothes. We deserve to wear beautiful, luxurious clothes. There’s a million places you can buy cheaply made, synthetic clothing. Clothes that pollute from start to finish and then fall apart after a wash or two. I want to make clothes that feel good to wear and live in. Personally I’m not sure there is a perfect solution but we can start by getting pieces that are actually worth having in your wardrobe for some time ❤️ I’m working on a shop update with two styles of pj shorts and this new crop cami, with new styles and colors on the way as well. Feel free to DM me if you want a specific color or size, I know right now my website options are pretty minimal. It’s day by day, starting this new business from scratch. I appreciate those of you who have placed orders so far! It’s a dream to make beautiful things for beautiful people ❤️

  • I had so much fun working on this #logodesign for a friend of mine. How approachable is that lowercase denver? The distressed texture lends to the DIY nature of her cooking classes and the juicy beet colors evoke a savoryness that I am here for! Mmm. (Ps. why is there not a beet emoji?) #denvercookingclasses #denverdesigner #branding

  • From this to this.

Reminiscing about my brick and mortar store in #Cherrycreeknorth in the early 80’s. Being on the cutting edge of creativity in this chic neighborhood gave me experience to be able to move into a private atelier which is where I am today.
At my atelier in LoDo, one of the historic neighborhoods in downtown Denver I see clients one at a time. I would call this brick and mortar also, but it’s by appointment only. No distractions, just you and me, beautiful fabrics, interesting designs and a feel good environment.

  • “I have no interest in being a creature of habit. But if I am to be habitual, then let my routine be one of seeking all that forces me to stretch. Let me seek what makes my blood race until I feel lightning strike may chests as this thundering heartbeat reminds me what the word ”alive” really means. Underneath every fear is simply fear itself. And if death is to greet us all at one time or another, then I will return to the ground with a smile on my face in hopes that the grass that grows from my bones may become the floor that someone else dances on.” - @alliemichellel

Love these beautiful words to accompany this image as we approach Taurus season. I love my earth seasons –– Aries gave me fire and a good ol’ push, and gave me some clarity as to where I need to be setting clear boundaries and how to strategize my life (LOL) and business moving forward. In these upcoming days, I’ll be listening and learning from some amazing speakers (including my boyfran’! @adamvicarel) at the wonderful @cropcons, and then bopping over to New Orleans to soak up some much needed time away….to find some lively tunes, eat all the seafood/cajun food in the land, relax, read, and enjoy a change of scenery––all the things I LURVE. It’s time to fill ma soul up, time to learn some new shit, and let loose for a moment. I’m grateful for the work I do, the constant grind of drawing and creating––but also the freedom that comes with the life I’ve chosen for myself.

  • I used to avoid looking at myself in the mirror. I am learning that scars remind us of where we’ve been; they don’t have to dictate where we’re going. Asé #becoming

  • Oh these little eyes of mine 🙈 the older I become, the more I fall in love with all of me. And that is truthfully all that matters. You can’t understand what is not meant for you 💅🏾 #throwitback

  • #throwback to this hair! And a small honor to #lupitanyongo & her recent vogue cover. Thanks for being a gracious reminder of all the beauty they said wasn’t there. Because of your authenticity, I am learning to appreciate all that I am- these lips, these little eyes, these cheekbones, this skin... the list goes on 😉

  • Learning how to appropriately care for myself has been challenging to say the least. My experiences with childhood abuse and sexual violence in addition to immigration and racial trauma greatly impacted my development and wellness. As a young person of color, many of my concerns were silenced by shame and stigma. As a young girl, I learned that there was something wrong with me, not the society I was living in. I was told it was my responsibility to burden these traumas, not that the folks around me should protect me. I was prescribed “prayer” as the the only remedy, not reaching out for help.
Close to 7m Black people in the US had a diagnosable mental health concern in 2014- that is over 16% of the Black population. The narrative that mental illnesses are a “white people problem” is damaging and problematic. To see that little has changed from my childhood is disappointing. Moreover, the current political and social climate requires us to pay attention to our health- physically, mentally, and spiritually.
On World Mental Health Day, I want to tell all the Black folks in my community, especially the young ones, that I hear you and I see you. Whatever you may be going through is real and valid. You are worthy and deserving of hope and healing. I encourage you to seek the help you need, even if it is just to talk.
To my immigrant, African community, it is up to us to change the culture and the way we conceptualize and treat mental illness. It is up to us to remove the stigma and barriers to care. It is up to us to ensure that the next generations grow up with better resources so they can take care and live healthy lives. 🙏🏾 @tameviviko
