  • Socks. Prosthetic socks. Chi Chi’s prosthetic socks.
.

I never expected that her socks would bring out so much emotion and affect me the way that they do. We always kept her clean socks out in a basket because she usually wore 2-3 sets of socks a day. After she passed away, over time, I put her things in memory boxes but I haven’t been ready to put away her socks. I don’t know why I haven’t been able to put her socks in a memory box when I’ve already put her prosthetics in one. Maybe it is because they touched her skin and fur so they smell like her? Maybe it is because I washed them several times a week so I could be sure that she always had clean socks when we put her prosthetics on - so maybe I have some special connection to her socks? I really don’t know, so I can’t explain it. .

Recently I decided that I was going to put the socks away and use the basket to store some of the things I’m using regularly with Ellie during her training (brush, special toys as rewards, etc). Last night I attempted to put the socks away. I was overcome with sadness and grief. Sweet Ellie is very sensitive and came right over to comfort me when she noticed I was crying. She smelled Chi Chi’s socks for several minutes - she was very calm and gentle. After taking the socks upstairs, I couldn’t stop crying. Richard reminded me that grief doesn’t have a timeline and there’s no reason I need to put the socks away. He encouraged me to get the socks back out. I put one set of Chi Chi’s socks back in the basket and then I felt better. .

Socks. Grief. I have accepted that grief isn’t something that I can control and it isn’t logical or even appropriate at times. It just is, and that’s okay. 🐶💜

  • So last time I was sniffing a fence and I got a electric shock from it. It did hurt for a couple of seconds but daddy made it all okay.🥰❤️ At first mom and dad didn’t know why I suddenly let out a little whimper. because there was no sign for electric shock and they even checked by touching it. So it turns out, only the black thread on the lower part was giving electric shocks. Mommy still feels bad for not thoroughly checking the fence. Eventually we found the sign when we walked towards the end. 😔
