  • This little nugget’s last seizure was yesterday at 6:30 pm - about 24 hours ago. I’m still a bit bitter about the timing of it - I always worry that his midnight seizures will start to creep into his daytime fun. ••• We are now adding a third medication to our AED protocol. Fin is currently on 312.5 mg Potassium Bromide once a day, 100 mg Gabapentin twice a day (except for the next couple days we are adding one additional dose to prevent more cluster seizures) and we are now adding 25 mg Topamax twice a day which will eventually be bumped up to 50 mg twice a day. Hoping this will stabilize him for some time. ••• In addition, I’ve started recording the moon phases a few months ago and am now adding barometric pressure changes to his epilepsy diary. I’m determined to find a cause for this but also fully aware that I may be delusional to think I will indeed find answers. ••• Fin seems fine now, tho I can tell he’s a tad stressed, a side effect of frequent seizures. With any luck he’ll be his old judgy self by the weekend (manana!). ❤️ #canineepilepsy #epilepsyawareness #dogswithseizures

  • Special happy food 🤗 Twice a day he gets a meal of dog food, 5 supplements to keep his tumors from growing and to drain his lymphatic system, several meds, coconut oil, Greek yogurt and of course GREEN BEANS! With these mast cell tumors, they can grow and shrink with the amount of histamines in his system. We just started a lot of these supplements this week but we’ve already noticed a reduction in the size of some of his bumps. We did have to go back to an old bowl and not the slow feeder because the thing in his mouth didn’t go away with antibiotics so it’s likely cancer and it still bothers him :-/ We went for short walkies this morning and he asked to come back early but he seems to feel just fine!

  • (Follow-up from previous post) The great snowstorm of 2010: Job LOVES the snow so when Dallas got that foot in 2010, we spent most of the days outside playing in it, chasing each other around and catching snowballs. Those few days hold the record for snowfall in Dallas and the amount was pretty incredible but the fact that it stuck around for a few days was just unreal for the area. I still talk about the shenanigans of those days a lot and I’m really thankful we spent them together. Holidays were another favorite as you can see in the photos, and of course I had to include the early days of me making him pose wearing clothes 🤗

  • The Journey of Job (7/?) – We had so much fun at our first house. It felt like it was a real turning point for us in figuring out our life together and making it work. Because he was used to going outside daily when we lived in the apartment, I tried to take him for walks every morning to explore our little neighborhood. I’d say it was in this little duplex where Job’s modeling and dress-up career began. He also started learning tricks here. Some of our best memories from this place were our small group get togethers and friends visiting, holiday gatherings and of course the great snowstorm of February 2010 where Dallas got almost an entire foot of snow and the whole city shut down for a few days(more on this later). Job quickly grew out of my little 4 door Mercedes and I had to upgrade his transporter to a Tiguan so we could carry him and his friends around in an appropriate sized ride. That came in handy the next week when they all got really muddy in a rainstorm and had to go get baths together! Soon we’d get the opportunity to gain a roommate, a bigger place, and some built-in doggie friends just right down the street.

  • Back to our scheduled The Journey of Job (6/?) I knew it was time for us to live on the first floor with a backyard so I drove the neighborhoods closest to my office until I found a cute tiny duplex with a for rent sign out front. It took a mini miracle to convince the 80 year old original owners that this single girl and her huge dog with big nails would be good tenants in their 1960’s original hardwood home. I’ve always been in sales and Job is a natural so we got it done and began packing. Job loved his new back yard! We were adjusting to tiny living and kitchen space (that kitchen was the size of my now closet) but there was so much love for our first “house” together. It was 10 min from work so we spent my lunch breaks going to the White Rock dog park or playing fetchies in the yard. Though we shared a yard with two tiny yorkiepoos who were terrified of Job, we loved our space there. It also had one of those door mail slots so Job enjoyed the daily attacking of the mail he got to do when it entered our house. He ate some bills and checks so back to crate life he quickly went but he was generally so worn out from yard playing that he didn’t mind.

  • This day will always be bittersweet to me.. 6 yrs ago I held Chelsea aka big mama in my arms as she took her last 3 breathes & lost her life to cancer. 😢 Bella & I were heartbroken & Bella lost her big sis who would kiss her to sleep each nite.. exactly 1 yr later to the day we were blessed with an itty bitty angel who would end up filling that void for both of us & Bella once again had a “kitty” sis that kisses her to sleep each day.. I’m sure our big mama sent her to us. I saw one pic of Mia and got on a plane flew from NJ >CA in desert bc I just “knew” she belonged with us. I was right. Her rescue story is in the comments.. she’s now beat cancer 2x has overcome seizures. She’s a little fighter at just 5.4lbs this itty bitty one has so much love and sass she melts everyone’s heart with her precious moment eyes.. happy birthday Mia.. the day her new life started as the 👑 princess she was always meant to be 💕💕❤️#bellamiamyiggies #ittybittymia #ilovemyrescue #adoptdontshop #savealife #fuckcancer #cancersurvivor #cancersucks #italiangreyhound #iggies #iggysofinstagram #iggiesofinstagram #myfurbabies #meanttobe #seniordogs #dogswithseizures

  • #tbt to a nightmare of a snowmobile trip to McCall, Idaho. McCall got hit with a massive snow storm the day we arrived. The plow trucks couldn’t keep up with the snowfall which resulted in getting our snowmobile trailer stuck in the driveway of the rental house on the second day. As we were trying to get our trailer freed from the snow, Ruger had a grand mal seizure in the snow on the deck. He has a history of seizures but usually the occur at night and in the house. He recovered just fine but Mumma was concerned as this was the first time it happened during the day. The next day we headed out for some epic snowmobiling but our enthusiasm ended quickly when we arrived back at the house to see Ruger covered in welts, significant swelling in his face, agitated and shortly thereafter he was in respiratory distress. We spent the entire night giving him Benadryl every 4 hours and he started to pull out of his allergic reaction the next morning. Watching our boy struggle to breathe was terrifying and we are so thankful he pulled through. That was a trip we will never forget! #ruger #vizsla #vizslaobsessed #vizslalove #vizslasofinstagram #dogswithseizures #terrifying

  • Warning: following the first 2 pictures is a video of Lucy's second grand mal from a cluster of seizures this morning. 🙁

One of these days, I will write a post about Lucy making it to 30 days without a seizure. Unfortunately, that's not today. Her last seizure was 19 days ago and it was MILD. This morning, the monster came back in a cluster, and when the second seizure hit within 15 minutes of the first, I gave her diazepam rectally. It stopped her seizure almost immediately (last pic). It was the first time I used a rescue med on her but given her first cluster event of 4 seizures within one hour on September 9, I didn't want a repeat. She may now have to go on a third pharmaceutical drug, something I've been reluctant to do. But we have to keep trying to find what works. Onward and forward!

For those wondering, she is currently on a daily regimen of 180mg of phenobarbital, 3000mg of keppra, and 10mg of CBD. That's a crapload of drugs that aren't really doing what they're supposed to. 😕🙁

  • Interrupting the regularly scheduled programming of The Journey of Job to show you guys some of my all time favorite Halloween (and just regular day) costumes of Job the Journey Dog. Job was quite the cooperative model and extremely patient just like his namesake. The first time I dressed him up he just froze and I snapped a few photos, gave him good boy treats and we were both hooked on our new camera and costume rhythm. ❤️ 📸 🐶
