  • 🌏Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia
📷@wewhodream Perspective fun! Salar de Uyuni does not disappoint! This has long been one of our top bucket list destinations and we promise you it looks more surreal in real life than in any photos you've seen. Oh and of course we did some obligatory Salt Flats forced perspective shots, how could we not?! Especially since we had Fluffy insisting»

  • Have you ever seen a treehouse like this? Located near glacier national park, this treehouse retreat is perfect for anyone looking for some peace and quiet. With two stair cases, you will never want to leave! You might have vistors such as elk, moose, and deer so don't expect to be completely alone! 📸 Kati O'Toole

  • HOW TO HIKE ACATENANGO WITHOUT A TOUR 👌💃
Woohoo what a volcano! Which photo do you like better? 1, 2, or 3?

From volcano #Acatenango you are just 3km from the erupting volcano #Fuego. The eruptions boomed all night long, sounding a lot like planes taking off!

NEED TO KNOW
Most people visit Acatenango on a tour, but it is possible to do without a guide, provided you have the correct gear. MANY PEOPLE HAVE DIED ON THIS MOUNTAIN. Most were taken by the cold and unforgiving weather. PLEASE go with a tour if you are not equipped for -10°C and below. For us it was -2°C with a windchill factor of -12°C, and that was a nice day!

We prefer to hike without tours as we don't like big groups. In saying that, I love supporting the local guides, and carrying our tent+sleeping bags+food+cooking utensils + first aid etc up without acclimitizing was hard work! In hindsight, I  would almost recommend doing this mountain with a tour as it is affordable, bags suck, being fed is awesome, and they have secured the best campspots; but I'd only go in low season when there are fewer people in the groups.

COSTS
A tour for Acatenango is 300 QZ pp. Doing it solo cost us 70 QZ pp (50 for entry and 10 each way for the #ChickenBus) plus food costs.
You have to pay in cash at the entrance, which is ~1.5km or 1mile from the trailhead.

HOW TO GET THERE
From Antigua, the cheapest way to reach the trail head is via chicken bus. The bus station is just west of the main market. Ask your hostel for directions.
1) Take the bus to Parramos. They leave every 5 minutes or so and cost Q3. Get off at the main park.
2) Walk forward and around the edge of the park. Every 30 minutes the bus to La Soledad comes through. They don't stop, but will yell where they are going from the side of the bus, so be ready to move! Get off at the cemetary just before La Soledad. If you tell them you are hiking Acatenango they should point out the stop. This is where the hike begins. Cost is Q7.
