Kavalan Solist Vinho Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky, a part of our Wine Barrel Collection of Whiskies.
Vinho is fully matured in used American oak wine barrels that have been toasted and recharred in a way that brings out fruity vanilla notes from the whisky and wood overlaid on a delicate background of complex fruitiness. The casks have been used to mature both red and white wines which eventually will contribute the background complex fruitiness to Kavalan Solist Vinhos.

Thirsty Thursday calls for a blinded Japanese whisky-off. To be honest, I completely forgot which was which when taking the photo but they drink so differently next to each other it's easy to tell the Nikka for it's higher proof and the delicate floral notes of the Yama. Personally I'ma Yama fan tonight. The Nikka may be a good transition into Japanese whisky if you're used to big bad barrel bourbons. I'll probably choose it next time it's that good. Cheers!
