A dust devil quickly forming over a stretch of dry bush and dirt on the way back from the town of Maricopa. Dust devils occur when hot surface air rapidly rises into colder temps creating an updraft appearing much like the start of a tiny tornado🌪
Today's #allthebooksapril is Western! This isn't a genre that I read a ton of, but both of these are horror westerns. Dust Devils is about vampires, and Devil's Call is about witches. I haven't read either of these yet, but they're on my list to get to soon!
The city of Fairfield's security camera caught the moment a dust devil began to spin with a man right in the middle of the action on Tuesday at the Rotary Skatepark at Allan Witt Park. In the footage, the man twirls amid swirling dust and debris. You can also see the roof ripped off a concession stand.
"Fortunately, no one at the park was injured by the dust devil or any flying debris!" the city shared.
The National Weather Service confirmed the video shows a dust devil, a small whirlwind usually visible as a column of dust and debris.
Forecaster Drew Peterson with the NWS office in Monterey says these vortexes usually kick up in hot weather when an area of intense high-pressure builds up and creates uplift.
But he says high temperature alone likely didn't cause the Fairfield dust level as it wasn't hot enough on Tuesday. He believes this event was more likely triggered by a combination of the sun baking the asphalt at the park and creating a high-pressure spot, and what's called wind shear, which is created by winds moving in different directions.
"There may have been lower-levels winds going in one direction and high-levels winds moving in another direction," Peterson explains. "It's like a pinwheel being hit on the side."

The European Space Agency (ESA) released this image on April 8th, 2018. In the image, you will see countless "tracks" that have been caused by the movement of Martian Dust Devils.
Sending a HUGE thank you to the Laredo Army Recruiters for administering the Occupational Physical Assessment Test to all the cadets this morning. Even when you’re far from home, you’ll always have Army brothers and sisters around. #armyfamily#tamiu#dustdevils .

Single leg exercises will always have a large part in the training of athletes and can go a long way in helping develop stabilization patterns for future health throughout the spine.
Mars may have a reputation for being a desolate world, but it is certainly not dead: its albeit thin atmosphere is still capable of whipping up a storm and, as this image reveals, send hundreds – maybe even thousands – of ‘dust devils’ scurrying across the surface. ⠀
These swirling columns of wind scour away the top layer of surface material and transport it elsewhere. Their course is plotted by the streaks they leave behind – the newly exposed surface material, which is coloured in blue/grey in this recent image from the CaSSIS camera onboard the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter. ⠀
Dust devils on Mars form in the same way as those on Earth: when the ground gets hotter than the air above it, rising plumes of hot air move through cooler denser air, creating an updraft, with the cooler air sinking and setting up a vertical circulation. If a horizontal gust of wind blows through, the dust devil is triggered. Once whirling fast enough, the spinning funnels can pick up dust and push it around the surface.⠀
As seen in this image, not much can stand in the way of a dust devil: they sweep up the sides of mounds, and down across the floors of impact craters alike.⠀
Fun day spent at the Great Garage and Antique Sale - Las Vegas - Silverton Casino. A few #dustdevils passed by, a tad-bit hot, but purchased a ton of treasures. One of the coolest things I saw was this big #old#rusty#dusty#wonderbreadsign 🍞😍
