There’s always time for a trunk hug at @sheldricktrust ❤️ Just ask buddies Maisha and Luggard! 🐘🐘 These babies are now happy as can be, but they both beat incredible odds to be here today. Maisha was left for dead at the height of the drought, while Luggard was shot twice and narrowly survived. Luggard loves his milk — and he hatches all sorts of plans to get his bottle early. One day, just before the morning feed, he and his co-conspirator Ziwadi quietly peeled off from the rest of the herd and made their way back to the compound. En route, and as they surely knew they would, the pair encountered a Keeper pushing the wheelbarrow of bottles out into the forest. Both gave a triumphant trumpet and demanded their milk then and there. Luggard pulled at the Keeper’s leg in an attempt to make him stop wheeling, and when the Keeper halted to tell him to be patient, Luggard saw his window of opportunity and helped himself to one of the bottles. Ziwadi caught a lucky break too, as the Keeper decided that if Luggard was having an early treat, she could too. So in the end, their plotting paid off!
You may notice that Luggard walks with a bit of a limp. He was shot twice as a baby, rendering him immobile and nearly claiming his life. We’re so far proud of how far he has come! To learn more about Luggard and the other members of our Nursery herd, click our link in bio 🐘
🙈😱🤣 So this is not Kruger but we kind of had to share this hilarious / unfortunate image by @jens_cullmann taken in Mana Pools!! Poor little guy...! Elephants are intelligent and learn from their surroundings just like humans do. Calves will copy the activities of the adult herd members and play with each other. Branches and rocks become toys to learn from and, of course, drinking time means playing and splashing in a waterhole or river (but with adults nearby in case of crocs). This little guy is about the learn the hard way though!! 😬🤣

Did you know that we operate eight key conservation projects across Kenya to ensure a sustainable future for all wildlife, habitats and communities? Our Water for Wildlife project provides safe drinking sources, like this one, for elephants and other creatures. They provide a lifeline in the arid Tsavo Conservation Area and Lamu Conservation Area, locations that historically suffer from drought that can devastate wildlife populations.

Best experience I’ve had here yet!! It was surreal being able to stand next to these amazing creatures. They are so gentle and kind it’s unbelievable!!The story behind everyone of them was heartbreaking but thankfully they were rescued and are now living a great life! #phuket#elephant#sanctuary
. #tailandia#tailand#elephant#elefante#santuario#elephants#love#asia
There are few experiences in my life that have humbled me as greatly as seeing the wisdom in an elephant’s eyes. She knows more than I ever will, and she changed my life just by looking at me. #elephant#elephantnaturepark#wisdom#thailand

"One day the absurdity of the almost universal human belief in the slavery of other animals will be palpable. We shall then have discovered our souls and become worthier of sharing this planet with them.” ~ martin luther king jr.
