  • There are some things in life we just can’t change. For me, it’s blindness. For you, maybe it’s a physical condition too, or another person’s choices. Oh, my friend, I know you may have a really hard, ugly reality in your life that’s brought a U-Haul of problems with it.
.
If you’re discouraged by the hard facts of life or overwhelmed by the problems, ask God to give you grace to accept the facts and wisdom to deal with the problems. God will help you handle the hard facts of life with wisdom, strength, and grace.

  • Four years ago today he asked me to be his wife. It was the easiest decision I’ve ever made to say yes, and it’s the greatest honor to be his.
...
Tonight was going to be date night, but we’re in bed with a touch of the stomach bug. At least we’re together, right?
...
Praising God for all He’s done in the last four years and still excited about forever with my best friend.

  • Lately, we’ve found ourselves in the busiest and accelerated season of our life together. Change has been a constant and we’re learning new things on the daily - about ourselves, each other, god, ministry, leadership, family. It’s been a challenging season for both of us for different reasons but despite long days, opposite schedules, and the different demands of our lives, we’ve prioritized our connection with each other. Date nights are non-negotiable and our time together is precious and valued.
From the moment we chose each other, it feels like we’ve jumped on a fast moving train and it hasn’t slowed down since. But there’s no one else I’d rather do my life alongside than you, @dontanelson. I knew my life with you was going to be an adventure and two years in, that’s already proved to be true. You’re my dream come true and I love my life with you ❤️

  • Swipe and you’ll see a typical Carly moment where I ruin a good photo because of constantly talking 😂 ANYWAY.
Did you know that we don’t have to worry about tomorrow? God’s got it under control. We have RIGHT NOW to make a difference. Living in the future is amazing and always motivating to see our goals and dreams. But there’s something so special about RIGHT NOW. Take a quick minute to look around and embrace the seconds ticking by in this very moment. What’s surrounding you? What are you working towards? You will never get this second back. It’s gone forever. How do we not take precious time for granted? It slips away from us each and every moment. I’ll tell you! We don’t take it for granted by showing the second that just passed that the second that’s in front of us will be taking us HIGHER, FARTHER & WIDER than we were just one second ago. Make sense? Lol I hope because even I’m a bit confused. But hopefully you’re picking up what I’m putting down 😝🙈❤️😊🤗😇

  • 30 is teaching me a lot of things. But most importantly it’s teaching me to just be more “me” and honestly I’m loving it. Life is exhausting trying to keep up with being like everyone else, we’re all unique and it’s important to embrace that. One area I’m finding peace in finally is my closet. As silly as that sounds, as women, what we wear affects how we feel and act and even our confidence. We spend years wearing what “they” say is in or we are supposed to wear. Know what my style is? Classic and plain. I love seeing people in lots of color and trendy clothes but it’s just not me. I may surprise you with some color here and there but I’m most happy with a closet full of black, white, gray, a little navy and jeans. My granny taught me a long time ago that it’s important to buy classic quality pieces that can be mixed and matched and she is always the best dressed in the room so what she says goes.

  • August 2012 was the last time I colored my hair. There were a lot of reasons... cost, allergic reactions, time... but the main one... I was just so tired of the hassle! I love the scripture, Proverbs 16:31 “Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life.” #healthierchoices #embracereality #simplifyyourlife #savemoney #bereal

  • Whoa. I haven’t done an introduction for awhile now. I’ve actually kind of got away from this whole instagram thing. It can be kind of overwhelming, but I listened to a podcast the other day and it spoke on finding your “why”. I’ve heard about this before and I’ve actually even wrote about it! But it resonated with me more this time. You are what makes this world unique and you have something to say, so why not say it?!
Okay, that’s that. Now a little about me. 🌻 I love all things personality, so you can often find me reading things about the enneagram or Myers Briggs or “which Disney princess character are you”... 😂
🌻 I’m not a fan of small talk, but I love a meaningful conversation that has depth to it. 🌻 I must always mention this.... McAlister’s sweet tea is my jam. 🌻 I used to hate taking pictures. But these days, I’m a fan of random photo shoots. Like take my picture anywhere, especially if it involves flowers. Haha 🌻 I’m learning that life is a process and we’re all at different stages of that process. Trust the place you’re in right now. Be content, but not complacent. ⠀⠀
I love getting to know random little things about people, so tell me something about you!

  • PREACH, @jordanleedooley ⭐️ I’ve been thinking on this conversation so much lately (episode 174). Thinking about the things that limit me and FOMO is definitely one of them. I keep coming back to where I am and who I am. Theologian Howard Thurman says: “Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” Don’t be limited by what you think you’re missing out on—be alive where you are 🙌🏻 Give the whole episode a listen! You won’t be disappointed!! (Link in my profile or listen on your fav podcast app) 🎙📱❤️

  • Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.

What are you waiting for? It’s YOUR life! If you’re searching for MORE you better get busy making it happen!!

  • Girl, I get it...⠀
⠀
Friendships can be so hard and I’ve been there. When someone else becomes someone you don’t recognize or your friend makes choices you don’t approve of, the list goes on and on.⠀
⠀
I am by no means a friendship expert but I’ve learned what to do when a friendship could be toxic. ⠀
⠀
⠀
When I realize a friendship is toxic I begin to invest less time in it. I begin to replace that time with something or someone that would be healthy and life giving. It’s not bad to spend less time with people who aren’t life giving or those people you can truly lean on. ⠀
⠀
⠀
A friendship should be iron sharpening iron! And as you spend less time with one another it won’t end on the wrong key, you will still be friends but now she probably won’t be the one you go to or do everything with. ⠀
⠀
I’ve never had a “best friend”, I’ve just always had super close friends who I can always count on! ⠀
⠀
I used to think that was a bad thing, but I’ve learned it’s actually a good thing:) ⠀
⠀
If you ever need a friend, I’m always here and would love to chat! Feel free to message me💛⠀

  • I tend to complicate things. I think I need more journals, more time, more advice from others, more books, and so many other things that distract me from what really matters.

Really, I simply need more Jesus.

I need less of me trying to figure it out and find satisfaction in other things. I need more of His word, quiet time to listen to Him speak and give wisdom, and more reminders that the gospel is all I have and that’s all I need.

  • The last Easter without baby boy in our arms! For a while I thought it might be nice if he came on Easter and now I’m so glad he didn’t! I’ve been in serious nesting mode and I want him to stay in my womb as long as he needs to. Every day with him is special and I haven’t even met him yet.
...
Pregnancy has been the greatest gift to me. I have had minimal discomforts and no complications, and for that I am very grateful. Over the last couple years while walking through infertility, God taught me so much about His healing and His desire for wholeness. Because of Jesus’ resurrection, I can walk in healing in every area of my life! Not only did He give us eternal life, but He died and rose again to give us abundant life here on earth, too. For that I am forever grateful and forever changed.

  • Wow do I need a fresh start or what? 👀
•
Don’t get me wrong, last week was fantastic with both John’s and my birthday celebrations 🥳 🎂 but I need a HARD reset.
My nutrition last week SUCKED.
I ate cake most days (bc when people buy you cake, you can’t waste it 🤷🏼‍♀️), went to dinner twice and drank all the wine 🍷 and I put on 4 pounds 😂
We’re all human and we all “fall off the bandwagon” from time to time.
But I prepared my food for the week, have my workouts planned out and I’m up at 4:15 on a Monday getting my ass back in gear.
Summer is almost here and we don’t have ANY time to waste, people!
•
If you’re sick and tired of feeling like a failure and beating yourself up about weeks like I just described above, let me help you stop feeling that way! ✋
Enrollment for my next online health & fitness bootcamp is open now!
We start on 5/6 and I’d love to help you on your own fresh start! 🍃

⁣
Thankful for what Easter means to our family, and that we were able to spend a little time with nick when he did a drive-by in the engine! ⁣

Love that his station was right down the street and two so thankful he was able to sneak down to see his fam 🥰

  • This Easter was a little strange. We went to our church’s Easter production on Friday, so we didn’t go today. Since we didn’t go to church, I didn’t wear an “Easter dress”. We weren’t able to go back home to be with family, so we spent it just us two. We had a slow morning and then went out this afternoon. I wanted to go look at the flowers that are starting to bloom at the park, so Jarin amused me and we went. A sweet lady asked if we wanted our picture taken and we said yes, because you don’t just pass up that opportunity. After the park, we went to Starbucks and set outside talking and enjoying the beautiful weather. So although today wasn’t spent how we usually spend Easter (church and family), it was still spent well.
Maybe your day didn’t go as planned or maybe even the past month hasn’t gone as planned. That’s kind of been the story of our life lately... things not going as planned. But ya know what, life is still beautiful and there is a purpose for everyday. God has a plan for you. He has a plan for us. (🙌🏻) Even when things don’t make sense, just trust that God is on the other side of that trial waiting to hand you the blessing.

  • Couldn’t have asked for a better day to spend outside! We decided back in January to spend Sunday’s together doing something fun as a family. Sunday Funday continued with a hike up Kennesaw Mountain. Here are the stats: 5.1 miles, 12,500 steps, 86 floors. Now, if you need me I’ll be sitting somewhere not using my legs. (More pics in my stories)

  • Happy Easter friends! Jesus is alive and that is why we celebrate today. It’s not about the Easter bunny or coloring eggs, but it’s about the sacrifice that was made on the cross. But even more, it’s about the salvation and eternal life that we get to receive because of it. You may be doubting in your faith and we want to tell you that is okay. Thomas the disciple doubted too, but guess what Jesus came back for him! He came back just to show him that He was really who He said He was. So today, Jesus is coming for you. He’s reaching out to tell you that He is who He says He is and He will do what He says He will do. 💛 “Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20:29

  • Last night at our Good Friday Service I had the opportunity to take photos of the baptisms. Getting to be up close to capture the emotion of fifteen people, both young and old was such a powerful experience.

I was overwhelmed by how universal pain and suffering is. That no matter the age, we get things wrong, go the wrong way, and end up in dark places.

Hearing young kids share about how they have gone their own way, not honoring God was so humbling as what great hope they have in their faith to help them navigate their future. Particularly middle school, high school and into college.

While I thought I had faith at that age, I had no clue what it meant to live dependent on it. Seeing these kids and young adults commit their lives had me cheering on the sidelines. Praying they cling hard to their relationship with Jesus as they begin to navigate their next life stage.

As for the adults getting baptized. I was an emotional wreck watching them break down emotionally as they sat on their knees in the water as their testimony was read aloud.

While the enemy would love to shame grown adults for breaking down emotionally, I couldn’t help but see just how cleansing their tears were. That as the tears fell for all the pain their own lives had caused, that the water they were soon to be dipped into would cleanse it all. To symbolize how all their sin and shame has been washed away.

While the pain and tears will continue to come on this side of eternity, it was such a beautiful reminder that baptism points to what we will experience in heaven where all tears are all washed away and where Jesus life, death and resurrection has the final say.

  • I’m reading this book called “the way of life” by Bill Johnson. It’s all about experiencing the culture of heaven on earth. It’s been a big eye opener for how I should be living and pushing me to believe in a deeper way.
We have all been commissioned to go. Our going looks different, but the call is the same and that is to grow the kingdom of God. God’s dream is that we would experience heaven on earth and we get to be a part of making the dream happen! I think as we approach Easter and celebrating the resurrection of Jesus, we should also be remembering the life He lived and the culture in which we are called to walk in.
There is no fear. There is no condemnation. There is grace. There is power. There is freedom. Y’all, Jesus was a guy who walked in boldness and passion. He did things a little differently. (Like spitting in the dirt to make mud and then rubbing it in a blind guy’s eyes so he could see again.) He didn’t let people stop Him from going forward with the mission God gave Him. He believed with such a strong faith that miracles followed wherever He went. He brought hope to the hopeless. He loved even those who didn’t love Him. And this is what we are called to as well. This is the culture of Jesus that we are called to here on earth as it is in heaven. So this Easter remember the death, remember the resurrection, but also remember the life. Challenge yourself to believe deeper and pursue God relentlessly.

  • Just realized I never shared with you all the two restaurants Katlin and I tried and loved last weekend in Louisville! After over 2 years (how?!?) of not getting to hang out in person, I was finally reunited for a girls day with one of my best friends and it was like no time had passed at all!

We grabbed brunch at @bluedogbakeryandcafe and it was the perfect brunch spot and the food was unreal. For dinner we grabbed @porcinilou which was also amazing! I can’t wait to go back there for dinner when their patio opens for the season! If you’re headed to Louisville anytime soon, I would highly recommend both places.

  • Is it just me, or does the idea of having a bunch of people over for a celebration make you sweat - I mean glisten, clearly I glisten. 💦
Maybe it's legit, or maybe it's just in my head, but I always feel so much pressure to produce an event.
I feel like my friends and family walk into my home expecting a full scale, fully decorated, magazine worthy spread - let me tell you, that's not what they get.
I love creating stunning tablescapes for beautiful events but somehow that just never happens in my own home. Maybe before my kids were born, but now, well, the standards have been lowered just a touch 🤦🏻‍♀️
So here's to our celebrations, whatever they may look like, as long as you have great people to share them with! 🥂

  • Getting kids to eat healthy is hard. I read somewhere that it takes up to 15 (fifteen?!?) introductions of a food for a child to like something. That seems like a lot of work but I always give them what Nick and I are eating. They may not like it... but at least they tried, right? There are days where we have the same meal we had last month they didn’t like and all of the sudden they clean their plate. ⁣
⁣
Always trying new things gives them better palette and better palette means a more diverse foods we can put in front of them. Is it a win every time? Nope, but I keep trying!⁣
⁣
One trick I like to use is letting them pick one fruit or vegetable from the grocery store they’d like to try. Today we are trying starfruit. Pretty fun if you ask me. ⁣

  • Shout out to all the ladies raising businesses + babies✨💫💛
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
See that cute little photo bomber there? I missed so many moments like this with my other four children, while I was working away at my corporate job. I remember googling all the ways I could possibly work from home, start a biz, anything... I just wanted to be home with my babies, taking care of my family + my home 💛
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The free spirit in me needed a creative outlet (+ flexibility).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I wanted to do work that matters, to make an income with an impact.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I wanted to create a legacy for my family 💫
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I know it’s not easy to start something new, to make changes, to start a business, + hustle during the mom pockets or while working another job. But I’m so glad I decided to go for it, to level up + learn how to dream big for my family again💫✨...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m CEO + mama + I LOVE IT!

If you can relate, or if this speaks to you, then this is for you too ✨

  • It seems to always rain on Good Friday and I love the reminder to sit in the tension and not just focus on Easter. The grief and sadness between today and when our Lord beat death on Easter Sunday is a beautiful time to simply take in what He did for every single one of us. ❤️ (quote by @bobgoff)

  • Did you know that...⠀
⠀
⠀
When I was in 2nd grade I was fully diagnosed with epilepsy for absent seizures. I have had tons of blood work, countless EEGs (both 1 hour and 48 hour EEGs), an MRI and doctor appointments galore.
⠀
There is nothing like waking up to a seizure. It’s something I can’t really describe other than embarrassing. Your totally caught off guard after only a couple seconds when people are right in your face, screaming your name, laughing at you and you feel helpless. All you want to do is cry.⠀
⠀
My journey with epilepsy was filled with tears, joy, hope, embarrassment, fear, frustration & perseverance. ⠀
⠀
In December, I got the all clear from my doctors that there was no sign of a seizure on recent tests. If I’m being completely honest, I was both excited but also worried. Worried that this could all happen again, because I’ve been there before. I’ve been there, when you go get ice cream because you just got the best phone call from your doctor, only a few months later to find your back at square one. I decided to live in that moment and lean on God.⠀
⠀
After all, he is the one that has guided, is guiding and will continue to guide us💛⠀
⠀
Whatever your going through, big or small. Nothing is too much for God to take. Give it all to him, trusting that he is your compass guiding you no matter where you are💛 ⠀

  • Strong enough to calm the storms
Of fear and unbelief
Fierce enough to break the cords
Of death that clung to me
'Cause I have come to know a love
Whose power has overcome
Every insecurity
And Heaven moves and demons flee now
As I lift my voice to sing
...
Oh, Your love is strong
Oh, Your love is strong
Oh, Your love is strong, yeah
Oh, Your love is strong, yeah
...
Close enough to hold me near
When fear is crippling
Safe enough to be my home
When my world is crumbling
'Cause I have come to know a love
Stronger than the grave
That in my darkest hours
You raised me up from death to life now
In resurrection power

  • They are all smiles here but man can these girls throw down and rumble. With each other and with me. They can push all my buttons. And I can lose my cool faster than a speeding bullet at times. Calm is the last adjective to describe most of my parenting. As I was reading The Gifts of Imperfection for our Surviving Sarah book club, Brenè gave some advice on how to practice being a calm and mindful parent. I’ll share here because I bet there’s at least one other person here like me:
1️⃣slow to respond
2️⃣quick to think
3️⃣give yourself permission to take a minute & say “I need to think about this”
4️⃣ask yourself if freaking out will help (the answer is always NO)
So I’m gonna practice. Deep breaths. Walk away. It’s okay to not have an immediate answer. Start with empathy. Speak truth. End in love. 💆🏼‍♀️

  • ✨a question i’ve asked myself before and now find stirring within me once again.

i feed off distraction. and then moments like this morning happen and my soul becomes satisfied, as i’m willing to allow my desperation drive me to see Him and only Him.

He’s not in your tomorrow waiting for you to arrive, nor is he in your yesterday dangling your misgivings over your head.

He’s in your exhale and inhale, right now.

look up.

breathe.

lean in and listen.

He’s there.

stay and behold Him.

this is where change begins.✨

But I am also blessed to already be a mother because I have had the immense privilege of caring for vulnerable children in foster care.

I've read this the other day, and thought I need to share it with you:
'Exercise to be fit, not skinny. Eat healthy to nourish your body, not to lose weight. And always ignore the haters, doubters, and unhealthy examples that were once feeding you'.

  • My day didn’t start the way I wanted it to...⠀
⠀
As most of you know, I wake up at 5 am Monday through Friday. I know I’m a little crazy, but by waking up at 5 I’m able to be both physically and mentally, emotionally and spiritually ready for my day. It’s through scripture, prayer, devotional, music, writing and a warm cup of coffee or tea that I become fully ready for my day. The trials I face through the day seem so small, when I begin my day with truth instead of being filled with scrolling time on my social media. I’m not saying I don’t ever have a bad day, but those challenges become less magnified. ⠀
⠀
This morning my alarm went off at 4:45 and I totally missed it. My phone volume was on low and I didn’t hear it go off. I was supposed to leave the house at 6:30 to go to yoga. To say the least, I woke up at 6:30 from my bed. I skipped yoga this morning and was immediately mad. I woke up mad and frustrated. ⠀
⠀
I took about 15 minutes and immediately dove into scripture. As I read psalms, I looked at my wrist. The bracelet I wear says “choose joy”. It was a reminder that I needed this morning. A reminder that this little thing I was so worked up upon was so little in comparison to the joy of the lord. I turned my day around and decided to choose joy > frustration. ⠀
⠀
So if your having a rough day, know that it can change. Your day isn’t stuck this way but your the one who decides if you want it to change💛

  • When I was about 10 years old I spent a week taking wallpaper off the walls of my new bedroom. I scraped and scraped knowing that when I was finished I was going to have the yellow bedroom of my dreams allllll to myself and it was going to be SO worth it. I picked out a blue comforter with a floral pattern and had white wicker furniture given to me from my uncle’s show houses. It was everything I hoped for and I LOVED that room.

It’s no surprise I love to decorate and switch things up around the house because of the freedom I had growing up to creatively express myself through my decorating. My mama gave us some healthy limits (JTT posters go on the back of your door 😂) and a super tight budget and let us run with it. We put holes in the walls. We tried different colors. We moved furniture around like it was our JOB to make our space feel different since we couldn’t afford new things all the time. This creates confidence that you CAN do this!

And if you need some help, ask a friend whose house you love if she’d mind helping you with some pointers. My guess is she’d be super flattered and happy to do it. 😊

  • This weekend I did something that I never really do...⠀
⠀
For me, I’m in constant motion. It is SO hard for me to just be still. To not be thinking of all the things I need to check off or what I want to to do next. I can’t even watch TV without doing something else. ⠀
⠀
When I say I’m going to relax, it usually still involves me doing something like cleaning or watching tv and getting work done. ⠀
⠀
I’ve always been someone who is constantly on the move. Always jumping from one place to the next. ⠀
⠀
This weekend, I relaxed. It was a different kind of relax though, one that I’m not used to. I dreamed and did the things I love but often don’t do. Let me just tell you, it was amazing!!⠀
⠀
On Saturday, I made dinner and my sister, Izzy looks at me and says, “Do you feel ok?” I said “yes, I feel great, why” she said “you seem a little standoffish today” (is that even a word?!?) I explained that today I truly relaxed. Isn’t it funny though? My usual self is running in a thousand places that when I take a break I’m often seen like not my usual self😂⠀
⠀
So, at some point this week, I want you to truly relax. Go do the things you love, putting aside the to-do list and taking care of yourself.⠀
⠀
Are you up for the challenge?! What are you going to do to relax?!
