Best game ever invented. John Szczepaniak: “realistic gravity, inertia and object mass years before players understood the concept of a physics engine... an astounding level of AI, stealth-based gameplay, a logical eco-system governing the world’s creatures and a teleportation mechanic that feels startlingly like a predecessor to Portal.” It first appeared on the BBC Micro in 1988, and the version I was familiar was the Amiga OCS version that came in 1991. This game is beyond challenging. Meteorites raining down on you outside and sending you tumbling, teleporting back to the starting ship if you take too much damage, things you need to pick up before they are blown away, blown up or thieved by monkey-like creatures, birds and robots adding to the mayhem. I never got incredibly far but I have never played anything so goddamn amazing and atmospheric as this since, with continual reassessment of how to play out every situation bit by bit. Peter Irvin was a dude and released the cracked adf’s himself because of problems with the original codes breaking the game or crashing emulators, god bless. The cover art is incredible too, adding to the intrigue tenfold #exile#computergames#bestgame#bestgameever#bestgameeverinvented#scifi#scifiart
Exile and Exile: Wicked Phenomenon are action RPGs following the adventures of Sadler, an assassin from the middle east. Wicked Phenomenon may be one of Working Designs' biggest blunders, as when they were localizing it, inadvertently made it WAY too difficult. A couple hits and you're dead, while enemies take a tonne of damage and keep coming. Notable is the artwork though. They actually constructed that scene out of clay and photographed it for the cover. Neat!
You guys ready!?!!!
