  • Of the things I remember at Gamcheon asides from the perfect weather and colorful aesthetic, I remember most clearly the way locals helped us out throughout the day. The first instance was at bus stop near Toseong metro. We were quite obviously confused as to which bus to take, when an old Korean ahjumma sitting at the bus stop shouted something at us just as a small sketchy bus pulled up. From her gestures and what I understood with my limited Korean, she was saying, “It’s this one, it’s this one.” I thought to myself, “How does she know where I’m going...?” But then I looked next to me and down at myself, and was reminded that if there was a definition of tourist, we were it. Blue-eyed white guy and a Westernized Asian wearing a baseball cap and a Canon strapped around her neck. We decided to trust this lady, and turns out she was right.

Soon after, we were met with kindness again when two strangers on that bus stopped us from getting off at the wrong stop and helped us get off at the right one. And again, when a Gamcheon resident hanging her laundry outside saw we were lost and helped guide us using our map.

You would think that a bunch of tourists wandering around your front door and backyard, taking photos, would be really irritating, but that wasn’t the vibe we got here. Unlike Santorini and Hallstatt, it was like the locals genuinely wanted us to be there and supported us on our journey through their village. It was refreshing, and left us with a great first impression of Korean people—one that has only been confirmed again and again throughout our months here.

  • 👁‍🗨✨🧿 I digitally illustrated this Evil Eye pattern a few years ago. I had a photo of Moroccan tile work next to my art board & I pulled the colors directly from that image into my illustration. ✍🏼 I’ve had Morocco on my travel list for ages & hope to make it over there at some point in the near future. My plan for the rest of the year:
—
April: Kansas City, USA 🏡
—
May: Mediterranean islands, Italy 🌊
—
June: Tbilisi, Georgia 🌞
—
July: Warsaw, Poland 🌇
—
August: Red Lodge, Montana 🐻
—
September–Dec: Chiang Mai, Thailand ⛰

  • The famous Taj Mahal 🕌 in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India attracts more than 1 million visitors a year.

Commissed in 1632, it took 17 years to complete, and was built in memory of the emperor Jahan's wife, Mumtaz Mahal 👸🏾
