  • #flashbackfriday to when I was selected to teach at my company’s National Convention as a #blackstatus presenter. 
Sometimes I forget how far I have come. I was looking at my imperfections, my belly that hangs, my extra skin. Feeling fat and lumpy. But I found this dress in the corner of my closet and thought I would give it a whirl. It blew my mind how huge it was when I threw it on. And it sort of set everything straight. 
Our minds can play so many tricks on us. We must do what we can to gather the evidence to prove those corners of our minds wrong 💪🏻

I’ve hated shopping for clothes my ENTIRE life. Even as a child I was overweight and I have so many memories of leaving the store in tears. Shopping was traumatic and it would remind me of how fat, ugly and different I was (or so I thought) every single time. Trying on clothes made me feel so bad about myself and just highlighted all my flaws. Even well into adulthood, this feeling has never gone away... until now. ⁣

Last night I went shopping at Tj Maxx, a store I’ve always loved but could never fit into their clothes. I picked out a cart full of outfits to try on (all in a size L mind you!!), carried them into the fitting room and tried on 16 pieces. 16! I’ve never had that many options before in one fitting room. Haha. But besides that, I genuinely loved trying on those outfits. I was feeling myself and I was in love with the way I felt in my own skin. I felt amazing and you can see it all over my face. I felt confident, sexy, powerful, flirty, comfortable and beautiful - all words I would never use to describe myself. Looking at the other photo of me, I can see the sadness in my eyes and it just breaks my heart but makes me appreciate this moment a 1000x more. Oh, and the craziest part of shopping was, half the clothes i tried on didn’t fit and I didn’t even care!! I hung them back up and moved on, fully accepting that it wasn’t for me and not beating myself up because I’m too big. Such an incredible feeling you guys!! 💜⁣

This #facetofacefriday is a little different. Obvi there's a weight difference because this is a before/after pic but it also reminded me of something that comes up often in keto-convo ...⠀
"Do you drink on keto?" That's one of the questions I get asked quite often and the answer is YES! I DO! But not like before. Not that I abused it before but we would go out often and I'd have a few drinks without thinking of calories, sugar/carbs, etc. I plan accordingly now when we go out and I know that I need to work my drinks into my caloric intake, not just drink because tequila or vodka is 0 carbs and aaayyyeeee! No. It still has calories and I have to take that into consideration. Good news is, you feel it faster lol so no need for more than a couple of drinks to get your twerk on 😂. That's one of the things I'm happy I have control over as well, being able to have a good time and know my limits. It's something that before keto I would've said, "oh I'll just have fun and start over on Monday". That doesn't happen anymore. I'm disciplined, #IMINCONTROL .⠀

I know not everyone drinks but I just wanted to share for those that do go out on occasion to family parties (If you're Mexican/Hispanic you know how that goes 😂) or club/bars with friends and think just because it's 0 carbs, you can go cray! We still need to consider the calories. .⠀

My drinks of choice are: .⠀

Cocktails: tequila, club soda, lime, squirt of pyure, sprinkled with tajin. Vodka, club soda, MIO in any flavor.⠀

Beer: Michelob Ultra or Gold⠀

Wine: Suavignon Blanc or Chardonnay is what I prefer.⠀

  • A different angle for today’s transformation.. I was a large size 16 on the left and on the right I tried on a size 12 mom jean in Primark and they were actually big on my waist so I bought a 10! But for me when I was a size 16 I would never wear any loose fitting style of jeans as I felt they made me look even bigger but now trying this style on I actually felt good and not big at all! It’s all about the little non scale victories 💪🏼💃🏻🔥

There may be things or people holding you back from accomplishing your goals, heck it may even be yourself! It is normal to feel limited, like you’ll never get there. This year, I set out for some simple goals for myself: to continue to develop my knowledge in keto & my health, to buy a new car, to join a choir and sing, to volunteer more and be an active part of my church, and to fall in love.

I have already accomplished 4 out of 5 of those goals set for myself for 2019, buns! Just need Mr. Buns 🤣😉 I am in such a good place and am so excited for my future growth and the many adventures to come. When you set a goal, go after it with ALL YOUR HEART. Put in the passion, the sweat, the tenacity it takes to make it a reality. Sure, some people or things may hold you back, but don’t let ‘em! You do you, boo. 🙌🏼

  • 🤷🏻‍♂️ IM GUILTY 🤷🏻‍♂️ So I’m the honest type and I’ll be honest and say “I’m guilty of cheating on my diet” . I let this weekend be a weekend of enjoyment and we all face the consequences come Monday and gotta start from Square ☝🏼! So what should we do after we gain a few pounds from a cheat day or vacation..? 🤔 
NOTHING!! Stick to the plan 💪🏼 A good ole cheat day never killed anybody! So after you’ve gained a few pounds don’t beat yourself up, just hop right back on the plan. No need for a 3 hour workout and sweat session 😓 (you’ll just drive yourself crazy). Continue the plan and the weight comes right back off, most of it is just fluids and inflammation anyway and disappears after a good workout. 
However 2 little things I love to do so I don’t let bad eating get out of control 
Train in a fasted state: this morning I ran sprints at the field which will help me burn and put to use a lot of the carbs and calories I consumed yesterday, let them work FOR YOU and not against you. 
Plan ahead: We should look at our calorie intake as a weekly or monthly measurement instead of daily. For example if you eat 2000 calories per day that’s an average of 14000 per week. So if we know that we typically consume 3000 calories on Saturdays eating burgers wit da boys! Then eat 1000 on Friday or another day during the week and help yourself account for your cheat days by more restrictive on other days. Which will therefore keep you in a caloric balance for the week and help you stick to your goals without sacrificing your lifestyle and Saturday’s wit da boys 😅. These are just one of many tips and tricks I use to help myself and the people I train on track with their goals. Temptation tells you freak out and crash diet, but we’re put on this planet to enjoy every second of it so let’s not lose sight of that in search of a 6pack 👊🏼.
