Alright guys, here it is! A closeeee up of what we really mean when you hear us say “stay up on your toes”, “don’t let your heels touch”, “transfer your weight to the ball of your foot”.....it’s that tiny little sliver you can barely even see where your heel doesn’t touch!
.
You’ll hear this referred to as midfoot or forefoot striking depending on where your weight is landing, but it’s so much more efficient when running at high speeds! Instead of landing on your heels and rolling your weight forward to toe off, it’s one less step that’s going to seriously reduce your impact and likely prevent a lot of unnecessary injuries.
.
If this is super foreign to you are you’re like ????? You’re not alone! It just means there’s room for growth, efficiency and SPEED! So give it a try the next time you’re running at faster speeds and see how it goes! Make sure you have a slight forward lean and land softly. It will probably feel like you’re prancing at first but once it clicks you’ll have an a-hah moment like riding a bike.

  • Things don’t always go as planned. My Fartlek trail run fell flat yesterday. I had to modify it to how I felt I could perform. My last two workouts have not been my best. Honestly, it is 100% my fault. My nutrition and lack of sleep heavily impacted both workouts. Sometimes I struggle to find balance. Admittedly, even as I’ve continued to share my transformation photos I had fallen off on keeping a balanced diet. The further I’ve progressed in higher mileage, the less I seemed to care what I was eating. I am getting back into structured meal prep because ultimately I know it will help. Another thing I have decided to change, or rather reincorporate, is 2-3 days of strength training/mobility work each week (in addition to the yoga I’m already doing). Somewhere along the way things got off balance. While everything has been smooth in the running world, except my last two workouts, I’m struggling to find balance in all aspects of life. There are times I focus so singularly on running because I feel it’s the only thing in life I truly have control over. My time out at Newton Hills yesterday really allowed me to reflect. It’s time to refocus, find my center and put things back into a healthy balance. .

  • Fartlek,  is a Swedish word which translates into “speed play.” In other words, “continuous running interspersed with periods of fast running and slow running.” Fartlek sessions are awesome!  Basically all you do is have fun and play with different speeds.  You can focus your session on moving quicker on the downs, ups,  or flats—whatever you like!  I enjoy these runs because they are completely unstructured and they allow you to run with the trail.  Focusing on the uphills will build muscular endurance and improve your lactate threshold.  Focusing on the downhills will improve speed, ground contact time, turnover, and it will accustom you to the impact of running downhill.  Remember that most trail races have just as much descent as ascent.  You need to be able to run downhill as well as up.  For those in Langley, Canada the Houston Trail near Fort Langley is a superb trail for a fartlek session.  Aldergrove Lake also has some descent rolling terrain.   • TREINO 61 - Levando o corpo a suportar estímulos mais severos. O que antes havia um grande intervalo nas sessões e na intensidade, hoje a história é outra. Mas como nossa máquina é perfeita e se adapta aos estímulos, a gente segue porém guardada as devidas proporções. É preciso bastante equilíbrio para que a coisa não vire OVERTRAINNING.
E hoje a pegada foi uma mescla entre FARTLEK, ritmo progressivo e rodagem moderada. Tudo isso, após uma série de fortalecimento com duração de 50 minutos.
Mais uma vez, a terra batida foi o local escolhido para essa sessão. Os terrenos mudam na mesma proporção que os tênis também mudam. Enquanto que para o asfalto os tênis devem estar com o amortecimento bem ajustado, na terra essa preocupação não é tão importante. No meu caso, as articulações principalmente de tornozelo, estão bem adaptadas para a terra, onde os pés sempre são forçados a suportar terreno irregular, muitas vezes até com ondulações, buracos e pedras soltas.
Mais 15km para o vinagre rsss
E lá se foi o 23º pavimento...
