  • Obligatory post: during today’s #indorow class, I put some members through a pretty challenging final minute of an endurance drill where I had them go straight from a 30 second power stroke interval to a 30 second speed stroke interval. Of course, they rocked it, but when asked where that twisted challenge came from (😜), I spoke of putting myself through a similar drill (but for longer time) at the end of my own #waterrowerworkout . I couldn’t recall how long it had been since I did that though, so today I took up an amped up version of my own challenge...

My workout finisher today:
Alternate 30 secs. of power strokes (24-26 strokes/min. with a split time of 1:50 or less) and 30 secs. of speed strokes (32+ strokes per minute) with no rest until either my speed, split time, or form suffered. I made it 10 mins. Quads were on 🔥!

Give it a try when you need a challenging rower finisher to your workout.

💥 If you're suffering from pain, monitoring the following 3 activity responses can help guide you regarding when to back off or modify an exercise or activity (or the total volume of activities) and when it's likely acceptable to continue or progress:
-
1️⃣ Pain DURING activity
2️⃣ Symptom response for 24 hours AFTER activity
3️⃣ The TREND in symptoms over time
-
🤕 Ideally, we'd like to keep pain levels minimal to none (0-3/10), although in some cases moderate amounts are acceptable (4-5/10)
-
📉 We'd also like to see it settle back down to baseline levels within 24 hours and that the trend over time is an improvement in symptoms and activity tolerance
-
🚨 If we’re not achieving this, we may need to review activity levels and modify them to create the desired response
-
🤔 If you're having trouble figuring out how to keep your pain levels in these tolerable ranges, try to modify one or more of the following as it relates to your activity or exercise of choice:

✅ Range of Motion
📌 If deep squats hurt, try decreasing the depth a bit

✅ Exercise
📌 If an exercise hurts, choose a different one that is more tolerable and provides a similar stimulus

✅ Contraction Type
📌 If concentric (shortening) contraction of the muscle hurts, try eccentrics (lengthening). If that still hurts, try isometrics (contraction without movement)

📌 Seated shoulder presses hurt? Lean the seat back 5 or 10 degrees and try that instead

✅ Rest Time
📌 Increasing the rest between sets can allow you to perform a bit more volume without being limited by endurance

📌 If training 5x/week is too much, try dropping to 3 or 4x/week

✅ Duration
📌 If a 20 minute run bothers your knee, try a 15 minute one. Or perform walk-jog intervals for 20 minutes

  • Rest day today 🙏🏼 Thank you @theswolehousesa for helping me with my shoulder injury. I’ve had multiple dislocations and slight rotator cuff tears which has bothered me for years. Justin is awesome and extremely knowledgeable with the NeuFit machine he uses. Check him out if your in San Antonio!

When it comes to my squats I am fully aware of my depth  perception. This is something I have struggled with. My form has significantly improved since when I first started squatting. I appreciate all y’all feed back, I’ll get “ass to grass” eventually but it ain’t happening yet. 😂😂
Below are the workouts in order! I started with 30 minutes on the stair stepper. It was a bit difficult but I put on some Netflix and the time flew by!! •

  • I have to keep reminding myself not to compare my chapter 1 with someone else's chapter 20. My first days of lifting weights I felt stupid and embarrassed to lift because I had no idea what I was doing. I eventually became comfortable as time went by and continued to grow into powerlifting. Now, I feel that same feeling in bodybuilding.I feel like a baby all over again.  I have to remind myself through my frustrations that I am still on chapter one. Each day my posing gets better and I learn new things through watching videos of myself like what to do with my hands, walking straight, smiling while I do it all. Posing is alot of work and I am confident once I get more comfortable doing it I will grow into my own self with it. It's so crazy how the cycle of life is not only created from birth itself, but also in each new thing we learn throughout life. #babysteps #npcfigure #npcprep #bodybuilding #posing #flextexas  #fitfamsa #flexfriday  #npc #fitchicks #texasfitfam #confidence #cycleoflife #fitnessphotography #lifecycle #fitness #teamruneverything
