I've been meaning to watch Nebraska since I saw Bruce Dern's small but incredible cameo in Django Unchained. If a man can deliver that level of memorability in a short fiveish minute clip, he clearly has bags of talent and I'm down for checking out. I've also seen some very favourable reviews from everyone else.
It's a very beautiful movie, I'm a complete sucker for black and white because it does make everything look a little starker and a little crisper, and as a result, a little more beautiful. It's like neon, in that I love it always, even when I know I'm just being manipulated by the director. Whatever hun, manipulate the shit outta me. Luckily, it isn't just for show here, it compliments the story quite well and makes the events feel like a memory. This ties in even more so with Dern's character who is losing his grip on reality due to age. Or maybe I'm over egging it?
The dynamic between Dern and Forte's characters is what makes Nebraska so compelling. The characters are very real and relatable, and David's journey from a Debbie Downer to supportive son is quite moving. The million dollars is a lie, he knows it's a lie but for the first time in god knows how long David can see his dad willing to live for something other than spite and liquor. So he stops fighting it, stops putting Woody down and starts to play along because he recognises in the hotel room his father's fragility. Getting a sense of your parents mortality must fuck you up, not only because it reminds you of your own age and mortality, but because often our parents feel and seem invincible. They're a constant, and so it must be so confusing and unsettling when you're forced to adjust your expectations and accept that they won't be around forever. That realisation is quite powerful and seeing the change in David touched me.
Nebraska takes the mundane and makes it interesting, and personal, even though this will obviously be an experience that many of us will share at some point. That's the genius of it. The set up feels like one last trip, and that makes it all the more moving to see, especially when they take Woody to see the house where he grew up. (continued below)
This episode was very lighthearted and in my opinion the only mellow one in this final season. We got to see everyone settle in the city more of a recap with some few cool moments and a revelation. Jon finally gets to ride a dragon which we all have been waiting for since last season. The big reveal involves of course Jon, with him learning that he is the true heir to the iron throne. The Stark’s reunite finally but the most important reunion is at the end of the episode with Jamie arriving and finding himself face to face with Bran whom he paralyzed back in season one.
This episode was my favourite yet, the calm before the storm. Jamie and Bran have an interesting talk. Everyone feels the end is near and this brings them to “bond”. Unity against a common enemy. A Beautiful song that truly captures the essence of the episode plays near the end. No one wants to be alone this night that may be their last one on earth. Brienne is knighted by Jamie (very special moment) and Arya loses her virginity. This episode really humbled the characters as they know the horrors that are coming. Jon reveals his true identity to Daenerys during the final seconds of the episode but as it’s made clear by the arrival of the night king this isn’t time for politics and/or games of thrones THIS IS TIME FOR WAR.

Because it's all in our HEAD!
In protecting the rights of the oppressed women, we go to another extreme and start oppressing men. Running after -ism, we crush the beauty that Allah has kept in being a woman.
I remind all the pro --ism sisters, men are not a standard to compare ourselves with. We are our own standard. And we'd only be able to meet it once we nurture the uniqueness that we are gifted with.
Happiness, peace and contentment are in balance NOT in equality.
