We had a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving weekend at Havasupai Falls! We shared three picture perfect days with our dear friends with sun, mist, rainbows, and snow covered canyon rims. We overcame some unpredicted circumstances and met some amazing people in the process.
We had camped at an idyllic spot on an island between river channels. After dinner on Thanksgiving Day, a steady rain started to fall and increased in its intensity after midnight. We became concerned about the possibility of rising water level and woke up every hour to closely monitor the situation. At 3:30AM, our friend Robert informed us the river had broken the bank and reached his tent. Everyone jumped into action and moved all our belonging to higher grounds in the center of the island. There were two campers on a small strip of land next to our island. Their camp was completely flooded and the bridge between us had been washed away. Luckly, we had a climbing rope and were able move them across the rushing water safely to our island. The rain finally stopped by dawn and the river levels began to fall. Getting back to mainland and transporting our gear is a story for another day!
I took this shot of Havasu Falls about 6 hours after peak flow. Even though it had dropped a lot, it was still flowing hard. I found that a long exposure of 25 seconds was best for capturing the flow patterns. It was impossible to keep my gear clean with all the sandy spray everywhere. Needless to say, my camera was (and still is) filthy after this shoot. But the good news is that everyone has an epic story to tell!
Can a man get mansplained? It’s remarkable how many people told me I shouldn’t cut outside because it could rain and bend the wood. Do they not see what’s going on inside? Bending encouraged. To their credit, when it did rain, it rained like a MFer. Check out the flooded streets on our trip to the hardware store.

This is the reason why I was away for a good while.
Our town was hit by the outer wall of a big typhoon. No street in low land areas were safe from flooding.. neither were the houses safe from getting their roofs blown off them.
Our main road wasn't safe too. Power lines and uprooted trees blocked everything. Electricity posts taken off their foundations became barricades that were almost impossible to move without heavy equipment. It was full on destruction anywhere you look.
Luckily, the only part of our house that was wrecked was our garage. It was only an improvised kind, made of wood and corrugated aluminium-steel sheets for a roof, otherwise known as "yero" here in our country.
It's gonna take a while until electricity gets back in order here. But once it returns, I'll get back to where I left off with my art.
Flooded Streets ⠀
Images like this illustrate 'localised' climate impacts (because they portray disruption to everyday life) but retain the sense of scale and seriousness of the issue, which our research found was important.⠀

Many of our sharpest thoughts have gone unvoiced just because we didn't know what to do about them.
Many a times we have been plain ignorant about matters, because our narrow minds tell us they don't affect us. How selfish can we be? Are we waiting to become direct stakeholders? Won't that be too late? How long can this go on?
Follow: @altruist.inc NOW!
This page is started with the intention of bringing forward social crimes and calamities we have so long practiced to the extend that they have now become our norm. We hope to discuss the various problems we face as a society, ranging from poverty and hunger to failed politics, pollution and environment, the outdated educational system and how we treat fellow humans on bases like gender, class and religion.
Our goal is trifold:
1) Bring you our failing yet practiced systems of thought and action.
2) Discuss with reason and contemplation how these have led to our constant degradation as a society.
3) And most importantly, how we can individually resist these at a ground-level, and join hands to counter them and be the catalyst for a much-needed change.
We hope to work hard for the various causes we intend to bring forward. We may be able to help you by proposing simple step-by-step actions we can adopt as part of our daily lifestyles, to bring about change, starting with ourselves. Anyone who would like to contribute to this movement can comment on our posts and discuss your thoughts. We are looking forward to making this a multi-perspective platform for everyone in the society, regardless of age and ideology.
DM us your thoughts if you wish your ideas to be brought forward on a larger platform.

Sinking cars, washed away bridges, trucks sliding off the roads and buried tractors.
Just some of the highlights from mine and Martin’s travels around rural Uganda over the past few weeks.
Was amazing to see people drop everything to help one another through these conditions.
Unprecedented rainfall has ravaged the East and West of the country leading to floods and landslides rendering much of the country inaccessible, killing over 100 and displacing over 4000 since mid-November. @bracworld and the @ugandaredcross have been on the front line supporting any way they can.
