We foraged some cactus fruit and he instinctively smeared the deep red juice over his cheeks.
Just as the indigenous Chumash did with their cactus fruit. In addition to relishing its fresh, sweet taste, the Chumash mixed the juice with natural fixatives to create deep red pigments for their murals.
I've put a few of my tomatoes in the polytunnel now because I'm pretty certain all the frosts are over here. I'm playing it safe though and keeping 6 or 7 big plants indoors ready to go outside if anything bad happens.
In my area the lowest temperature for the next 2 weeks is 8°C so it seems like that time of year now where winter is finally leaving us properly.
Just a tip, if you take any plant out of its pot to replant it somewhere else, make sure that once you replant everything it gets watered well, plants can droop over and die if you replant them without enough water.
When you replant tomatoes they can look pretty unhealthy and droopy for a bit but don't worry, give it a good water and it will be back to normal within 2 days.
It’s slim pickings around here for Easter decorating but I managed to find some ivy, quinces, olive branches and rosemary around the old railway station. It’s so horribly dry that nothing is flowering and even the autumn leaves look sparse. Loving having a quiet long weekend to potter around #mycountryhome#foraging#gettingcreative#staysafeeveryone
A family forage 😍 This is a special place for us and we find the best twisty branches to use on houses here. Also find baby turtles and were lucky enough to see a platypus. Love it when the girls are as happy as us to find a nice rock or mossy stick.
Can you believe April is over half way over? This has been a year of lots of colds, flu, and infections for our family since January with a week or two of health until the bugs are making their rounds again. So tired of doctor visits, antibiotics, and medical bills, we have been trying some more natural options. I have to say the last few rounds have not been as bad since we started adding elderberry tonic to smoothies from my girl Chantel from @ladybird.farmhouse and we rub a doTERRA oil called on guard on my kids spine, a trick from my friend Lyndi from @theyatethestate. Since we started that we haven't had to go to the doctor, the colds leave quicker, and we don't have the weeks of lingering coughs so I am going to call it a win! I'm starting with something today and crossing my fingers I can feel all better for Easter. Any other natural tricks you guys use? I would love all the help I can get! #seethehappy
