  • TLDR: Drone failed while on trip to see the 8th wonder of the world. Miraculously got it to work enough to capture one good shot and enjoyed the experience.

Sometimes life gives you the opportunity to help a non profit organization by photographing the local people of Haiti to share the story of their struggles, while getting to see some beautiful things in a wonderful country...and then sometimes life damages your drone on really bumpy roads and prevents you from capturing what you were originally planning to see. Well that was what happened here! The gravel roads near Pignon we’re so worn down and full of potholes that the motorcycle ride bounced me and my drone around for 45 minutes one day, then the next time I took it out to fly, the gimbal wouldn’t respond and the camera moved randomly every 10 seconds! 😮Needless to say I was frustrated after reading into the issue and seeing that it would need to be replaced which couldn’t happen til I got home. So on our last day we visited the citadel; arguably one of the most impressive structures built upon a mountain top with hundreds of cannons and called the 8th wonder of the world. The structure is too massive to capture with a camera, so I was excited to use my drone to get the perfect shot. But I had to change my plans and flew my drone hoping it would point in the right direction long enough to capture an image. And thankfully I managed to get a few shots close to what I had originally wanted! (Though I had to fight the drone and fly it in different directions to try and move the camera around 🤯.) But I’m happy that I was able to experience the citadel and still walk away with some cool shots to tell the story, even if the clouds also disappeared after the 7km hike to get up there. I hope the next time life hands you lemons, you find the sugar and make some decent lemonade. So you can sit back and relax and enjoy the world around us regardless of the circumstance :)
