As quickly as Spring settles in and the weather finally begins to warm, the blossoms that signal the seasonal change have already begun to disappear. The apples and plum blossom that sporadically colour the streets and vignette our commute to the studio are already passing peak bloom with their branches now covered in fresh new leaves. We passed by a private Sakura garden in-between trips to our gas kiln and those too were nearing the end of their premium puffy petal period for the year.
Like the fleeting nature of these Spring blooms - our Hanafubuki pieces feel the same. When it finally comes time to look at our shelves lined with ceramics in pastel pinks and purples we know that in too little a time we will also be bidding farewell to them.
Pictured above are our late bloomers, freshly unpacked from the kiln. The very ones that we had delayed this year's Spring release for - a fitting tribute to the blossoms that delight us with their arrival every year and a farewell to their inevitable departure.

When cherry blossoms bloom, people of all ages gather in parks to eat and drink under the shade of these beautiful pink trees. In Japanese it's called "hanami" (花見), literally "flower watching".
This happens between the end of March and the first week of April around Tokyo and Kyoto area. In Okinawa, much warmer, cherry blossoms bloom around February. In Hokkaido, the northern island, even in July.
Japan becomes very crowded with tourists in this season. Hotels are fully booked and sightseeing spots are extremely crowded.
It's worth it to take the train out of the city to hit some less crowded spot, like the park that hosted the 1970 world expo, just 20 minutes north of Osaka.
But remember, you may be very excited to take pictures of the flowers, however this national treasure must be respected and preserved.
It's considered extremely rude to touch, pull, or take away the flowers and the tree branches.

Dance Party: Enjoying Cherry Blossom Viewing at Ueno
(Tōbukai Ueno ōka yūran no zu)
— Yōshū Chikanobu, 1887
This artwork is the center part of a triptych of polychrome woodblock prints created by Yōshū Chikanobu. View the full image in our feed (@artsofjapan).
The scene is set high on a hill in Ueno Park overlooking Shinobazu Pond, in the famous Seiyōken, one of Japan’s first Western-style restaurants. In the foreground, a female violinist, the new career woman, proudly displays her rare imported instrument as though it were trophy. With roses in her chignon and wearing a curvaceous bustle, the violinist is dramatically contrasted with her obsequious attendants, who crouch awkwardly in traditional clothing.
Yōshū Chikanobu (1838–1912) was a painter of the Kanō school and would turn a prolific woodblock artist at the dawn of the Meiji period. Chikanobu captures the changing appearance of Japanese society in the process of adopting the western ideals advocated by the Meiji Restoration. His historical subjects range from ancient eras, recent military conflicts, to the contemporary political establishment. Actor portraits and Bijin-ga, prints of beautiful women, are also a prominent part of his varied palette.

"La realidad no es sólo cómo se percibe en la superficie, también tiene una dimensión mágica y, si a uno se le antoja, es legítimo exagerarla y ponerle color para que el tránsito por esta vida no resulte tan aburrido"
I took my A-Levels in art and we started to prepare two weeks ago.
We are doing a gravure and our task was to draw something with crosshatch, so we can use it for a calendar and carve it easily.
Yep, I chose April/May, which is the time the cherry blossoms are falling ( Hanami is a festival in Japan dedicated to that).
It's something else, not the usual stuff that gets uploaded on my page.

#brandinconamor#Japón#cerezos#primavera#vida#hanami#tradicion #
