Keeping up with yoga & working out in residency has been one of the hardest adjustments thus far. We work 80 hour average weeks. Often 12 days in a row of waking up at 4 AM and getting home at 7 PM. All I want to do is sit on the couch, veg, watch TV and pass out. Most nights I barely have enough energy to make dinner much less make it to the gym. When I end up pushing myself to go, I feel like an actual superhuman. Bc this ish is hard and 5+ years of this can seem really daunting at times. So shout out to my fellow interns and residents on this same struggle/grind daily, you da real MVP’s
Day 5 of our #summerasana challenge and it’s all about balance.
I love to play with and challenge my balance, to explore the oscillatory pattern of the nervous system and to marvel at the way in which it will always catch us if we fall. It’s an incredible thing to witness: the way in which our natural responses are always there to keep us safe; the more we allow ourselves to trust that, in all aspects of our life, the more powerful and free we become. 💥
During the beginning of this video you will see me exploring the spirals of my bones and how my femur and right pelvic half spiral into to earth through my right big toe. This connection creates a deep rooted stability and sound base on which to fly, in addition when playing with balance, the upper body is always a counterbalance for the lower body and the foot that is lifted is full of life ☄️ as an access point to the deep core stabilising muscles. 💪🏼 notice how much your body lights up in connectivity when you bring your feet to life - aren’t we magic? ✨

I’m feeling very inspired in my sadhana at the moment after the weeks spent with @yogicstudies revisiting the reasons and intentions for this practice. If you swipe across you’ll see a yogi who appears to be balancing on one hand in a handstand, while the other is holding a stick, and his legs appear to be in a diamond/butterfly. This is from the 1500’s and one would assume that this was representing something that had been happening for some time before that. Who were these yogis and why were they doing such advanced physical practices? Did they also face the same criticism that modern day asana practitioners face?
I think it’s fair to say that they would have: as humans have been arguing over who has the right way and the right path in all fields of life for a very long time.
In my own way I feel the intensity of tapas in my early morning practices and the exploration of asana based movement practice combined with breath, self-study, devotion, meditation, chanting, ritual etc etc. This is more than meets the eye 👁. It’s a lifelong journey with some enjoyable moments of delighting in physical freedom and expression along the way.
Endurance athletes thrive on plant based diets 👌🌱 Posted @withrepost • @nutrition_facts_org There are certainly advantages to plant-based eating, like more antioxidants to combat "exercise-induced oxidative stress", and the anti-inflammatory nature of many plant foods that may "accelerate muscle repair" and strength recovery. But, do you have to eat this way for years, or decades, or your whole life to get these apparent benefits?
