  • Happy Nurse Practitioner Week👩🏾‍⚕️💉⁣
⁣
I always knew I wanted to be a nurse practitioner .. I knew I wanted more and I was determined to make it happen. the journey wasn’t easy but nursing has been my biggest blessing yet. I’m so grateful I get operate in my purpose on a daily. shout out to all the NPs and student NPs striving for more!⁣
⁣
I’ve been MIA... #lifeupdate⁣
⁣
I recently took a new role/ assignment in the hospital setting on the Bone Marrow Transplant unit... and Im still in shock!. I never would’ve guessed I’d be back in the hospital esp in the advanced role (Ive always worked in out patient, community settings).. but here I am.... and I’m on nights 🌙😴⁣
⁣
let me just say, even with 5+ years of specialty experience in oncology (hematology/ leukemia) and 3.5 years NP experience — it has been a humbling and challenging experience to say the least. nursing really is a career of life long learning. some days I feel I’m on point and other days I can barely remember my login but I’m showing up everyday. ⁣
⁣
Im just going with the flow, trusting the process and tryna juggle a million things at once ..there’s no telling what I’ll try to do next... ⁣

  • Spent the day in the office working on a blog post. I actually learn a lot myself from doing these. I get a chance to read latest guidelines etc. So I must admit I find it enjoyable. (I realise you can see my doodles on my note pad in the background). We all doodle when on the phone though don’t we?!😂

-
I've heard this from several clients and I subscribe to having easily accessible things on hand in a pinch as well. Especially now since we're only 4 weeks into parenthood, we've definitely been surviving on easy things to make and eat! Which is why I've shared some of the types of things we have stocked in our fridge, freezer, and pantry.
-
If you want to go above and beyond, sure, things like locally grown fresh produce, free range chicken and grass fed beef used to make a meal from scratch at home is great. But not everyone is able to do that let alone all the time. That's a lot of pressure to put on yourself!
-
You can still make nutrient dense choices that are convenient. You can't go wrong basing your meal around a protein and produce, then adding in a starchy carb and/or a fat. Proteins that are easy to grab and go and I've currently been thriving off of are hard boiled eggs, greek yogurt, precooked frozen chicken, uncured lunchmeats, and protein shakes. Ground turkey or lean beef cooks up quick too. Frozen veggies are just as good as fresh and take minutes to microwave. Pre-washed greens and salad mixes are great. Grape tomatoes just need to be washed, no cutting involved! Low sugar juices like V8 can help give you a boost of produce too. Microwaveable or quick cooking grains can help you tie it all together.
-
Preparing everything from scratch is great if you can do it. Sometimes you're too busy or too tired or would rather focus your energy elsewhere because life! No biggie. You can still eat healthy if you keep in mind the template I referenced above.

  • Paradoxical thinking in MSK medicine: is simplicity the antidote to complexity? 🤔 •
•
•
It’s pretty well established in the literature that injuries (how you define that) and pain related conditions are complex, multifaceted and highly individual. Personal history, activities, psychology, social sphere and existing beliefs all make an experience unique to that person. An ACL rupture might look very similar on MRI in 100 different people, but their circumstances and story make it more complex than - reconstruct it and rehab it. Bing bang bosh! You’re fixed! 🙄
•
•
Non-specific (or multifactoral) lower back pain is another good example. This is a hugely complicated constellation of symptoms and patterns that ultimately make the ‘condition’ complicated when you get into the weeds
•
•
•
FAI syndrome, anterior knee pain, stress fractures, plantar fasciopathy, subacromial pain syndrome... the list could be exhausted 👀 •
•
•
What’s paradoxical is that often we need to take a step back, appreciate the complexity of it all, but manage it in more simple and bite sized chunks 🧐 we need to sense of what’s complex for people 😎 IMO that’s physio well delivered!
•
•
•
Let’s get people moving more, loading, modifying activity, sleeping more, limiting or managing avoidable stresses, eating better, developing coping strategies etc 🔑 •
•
We don’t need to complicate what’s already complicated with crazy exercises focusing on fascial slings, the minutiae of biomechanics and the deep fibres of your psoas ✌️ •

  • “You’re the voice try and understand it” -
The first words I said when I woke up from my 9 day coma.
During my coma, I wasn’t expected to live past 24 hours.
Dad played his guitar and played me John Farnham songs in the ICU during this time whilst I was on life support.
Something I would never have expected was for John and his manager to actually ring my Dad and ask for updates on how I was doing so many times. Then arrange for us to meet. And continues to stay in contact with us over three years later.
So, heck yeah! Music made, and continues to make a huge difference in my life!

  • <3 Self-Care during the Holidays <3
Nutrition! With all the temptations around us during the Holiday season, it is even MORE important to consume healthy options. Tip: Aim for an 80/20 ratio of good options to treats. Did you know that eating healthy improves your memory & concentration, increases energy & productivity, and helps you manage stress better?
Self-Care is the heart of all health care. Statistics prove that good #selfcare helps prevent diseases, and is necessary for you to recover from and reverse chronic illness.

In the busyness of the Holidays though, it is more challenging to find time and prioritize self-care, but this is also why it is more important.

  • The root causes of endometriosis vary from woman to woman. 🤦‍♀️ Are you or someone you know going through this?
Endometriosis affects millions of women, a large majority being infertile women and those with chronic pelvic pain. 👉 This painful condition is characterized by the implantation and growth of endometrial tissue (your uterine lining) outside the uterus.
Endometriosis can be viewed through a "whole body" approach, which means it is more than just a hormonal condition. ♥ New research is showing that the development of endometriosis is likely related to a combination of hormonal fluctuations, immune system dysregulation, and imbalances in the gut. 👉 It’s SO important to focus on healing ALL three of these body systems along with identifying any environmental factors that may be playing a role in the development of this condition, which can also trigger symptoms. Taking a probiotic supplement or increasing your intake of probiotic and prebiotic-containing foods is a great way to start improving your gut health with endometriosis. 👌

The good news is that there is hope for relief from endometriosis. 🙏 We can work with you holistically and get to the root cause! Don't settle for covering up symptoms and suppressing natural hormonal function with The Pill. 🌻 Ask our office for support!

  • Tis the silly season 🎄
.
You may have seen some posts around the amount of sugar in festive coffees lately.
.
It is true that these particular coffees☕, liked spiced chocolate lattes can contain a lot of sugar and calories. These coffees should be consumed mindfully in order to avoid a large excess of calorie intake. It may be more beneficial to go for lower calorie options like an americano in the long term.
.
However, if this coffee brings some festive🎅🏼 joy😁 into your week then do not restrict yourself. You are allowed to over consume sometimes and to enjoy your food. The coffee still contains minerals and nutrients with the milk content.
.
These posts showing the amount of sugar in coffee are useful to know and really the only way to get this message out to the public but..
.
No foods are 'good' or 'bad'....simple. .

  • Tip 7
Change Tampons and Pads Often
It is a cardinal rule that things down there need to stay dry to stay healthy. However, during your periods, maybe you forget to change your tampons or pads because of a busy schedule. That's just a no-no though. If you keep moist and sodden pads near your vagina it will become a feeding ground for bacteria. Also, don't wear panty liners for your normal discharge since it increases the temperature around the area.
Tip 8
Eat Right
Maintaining a healthy diet can do your body and your vagina good. Foods like yogurt with live cultures contain good-for-you bacteria that help promote vaginal health. If you're prone to urinary tract infections, cranberry supplements can be taken daily.
Tips 9
Use Fresh Towels
Wash and replace towel and washcloths after you use them. Reusing towels isn't wise because bacteria can cling to these surfaces. And that potentially puts you at risk for an infection.
Tip 10
Go Commando
Your vagina needs to breathe. Try sleeping naked or without bottoms more often. You can also do an oversized tee or some loose shorts if you don’t feel comfortable going nude.
