Our adventure brought us to the ships logs and captains journals of many historic voyages. Our fantasy feature film is based on the adventures of Charles Darwin and his species discoveries.
We have been on a 6 week adventure of location scouting for every scene of that film, tracing the steps of our young contemporary protagonist.
However, along this journey I saw access to many voyages that were gossiped about in hearsay in broadsheets from the 1800‘s. There was access to my family history, seen through the perspective of HIS eyes only. The seafaring men only came back with their stories „his“ stories as told from the men. But I have a story passed down to me from my mother. Of a royal family of matriarchs that once ruled and had lineages that went back to the Chinese queens of the sea. The sea pirates of women that protected their village fisherwomen from the naval explorations that kidnapped them and hid their deeds under fantastical stories of mermaids.
They lied. They called us mermaids. They trapped us and raped us. The sea pirates protected us and and taxed the merchants for safe voyage through the South China seas. We were a vast community before the jealous emperor suppressed the women of the seas... #realmermaid#realmermaidlife#herstory#maidenvoyage#menatsea#mermaidsarereal#familyhistory#matriarch#matriarchalsociety#lostempires#lastingmemory#pirateprincess#eastverseswest#heritage

Making a difference. What does that mean to you deep down in your soul? I’ve tackled this thought a great deal this past year. I love pretty “stuff”. I love to have my living space look and feel a certain way. I majored in interior design because I truly loved it. In some way, I’ve spent the past 25 years working in the design industry to make things pretty, orderly, functional, all the “design” stuff. Truly what does that mean. Maybe it’s age and I know it’s experience. This next phase of “me” wants to take the design, decor, serving, cooking, making all that stuff to a different level. I’ve come close to not being able to do anything in this world so it’s important for me do something other than create a pretty picture. ( Though I still enjoy that a great deal) However, this decade is about growing those skills to help creat a better place in this world.
To provide some aspect of peace, joy, comfort, love to people who really need something more than just a pretty space. So this decade is about care ~ care of creating a space that will give someone who really needs it that feeling of knowing that someone really cares ~ tbc. #sweet_basil_life#caring#helpinghands#comfort#comfortfood#givingback#ittakesavillage#opendoors#kindness#peace#healing#heritage#betterthanthelast#newdecade#andalways#lovewithanopenheart#nc
I am so thrilled to discover a new take on Sinigang in Maguindanao! I just had a marvelous experience eating “Sinigang na Dalag” in a carinderia. They sautéd onions and tomatoes, added the dalag (mud fish), bihod (fish roe), poured water, simmered, placed the green chili, served once warm enough.
Where is the souring agent? They will give you a platter of “kabuling”, a local lemon with a seductive aroma, to squeeze on your soup bowl. The cooking process did not end in the kitchen. It became a progression of creativity all the way to the diner - to interact with the dish - and craft his desired level of sourness. Beautiful! 💕
