The Verona Arena is one of the best preserved and largest amphitheaters in the Roman world, dated to the first century AD. The structure originally consisted of three rows of arches, each consisting of 72 openings. The building has a façade in opus quadratum in blocks of limestone and only one architectural order: the tuscanic. Currently the Amphitheater lacks the outer ring that would have been the true monumental façade. The cavea had a capacity of 30000. The entrance to the arena took place through the two entrances on the major axis, the Porta Triumphalis, through which entered the procession that opened the games and Porta Libitinensis, from which the bodies of the dead gladiators were brought out.

#ifoundawesome the kasba peth Ganpati mandir. Commissioned by Rajmata Jijabai, the construction of this temple was a bold political statement back in the day. It was because of the construction if this temple that the people of Pune in 1600s felt confident to come back to Pune and make it a bustling city just like before it's demolition by Adil Shahi of Bijapur.

Reposted from @lutzr2 - Elliott Funmaker, Sr. and his family conducted a cultural demonstration of Ho-Chunk Nation traditions at the Driftless Historium in Mount Horeb. They shared their rich heritage with many details about the regalia that they wear, as well as the significant meaning of the songs and dances. They also explained the symbolism of objects and actions, such the drum itself and the beat they played on it. It was an informative peek into the culture of the native people of this Driftless Area. One that will help ensure their traditional heritage is not soon forgotten. @hochunknation
I like to imagine Hanorah’s family living in a stone cottage with a thatch roof close to the sea in Schull. Her father and grandfather before, fishermen, rowing the boats out of the inlet until it appears like a speck bobbing upon the waves. Mount Gabriel looms over all as her mother hangs laundry to be kissed by the salt of the sea. •
I wonder if she missed it - the sounds of the gulls and the waves crashing upon the shores - the lullaby of the harbor as she traded Ireland’s rolling green hills for a far away place. First The east coast of America, the bustling sounds of the city. Later, an even further away place called Iowa: “the beautiful land”. Did it rival her homeland or pale in comparison? •
