  • When we first moved into our place, there was the cutest military couple who lived in the house next to us. Every morning when the wife was heading off to work, I would hear them in the most cheerful, loving voices shouting “love you, have a great day!” Or “love you, see you later babe!” Sometimes it was almost comical because it could be so over-the-top mushy and they could be heard by everyone in the neighborhood when they were saying their goodbyes. I would laugh to myself sometimes when I’d hear them, but it also made me think twice about the way I greet my husband let alone speak to him in general. There was definite room for improvement.
A couple months later, they moved out and another couple moved in. Although they’re another military couple and around the same age, this couple is a night and day difference from the other. They are never smiling, and most of the time they both wear tired, haggard expressions on their faces. Often they’re seen bickering, or the wife giving her husband sass on the steps where everyone can see them (we live in a VERY close neighborhood where all the walkways are shared and many times in plain view). They look anything but happy, and more like roommates than best friends/spouses.
Seeing these two very different married couples has given me such clear examples of the type of marriage I can choose to have. But not only that, it’s made me acutely aware of just how much our marriage can impact those around us. People are ALWAYS watching. Are we going through life like the best friends that we are? Or are we choosing to fill our days with pointless bickering? Add parenthood on top of it all and that’s a whole other layer: my marriage is seen first and foremost by my kids. What are they seeing? Which version would they say we are?
Anyway. Just remembered that sweet couple from next door today and it got me thinking. I’m choosing a happy, loving, healthy marriage❤️
(ps excuse the teeny bit of mid drift showing- it was definitely unintentional. I promise I wasn’t trying to show off my stretch marks ok?🤣)

  • Have you ever tried sugar ring hair removal? It’s an organic molasses-like substance made from completely vegan ingredients. It’s even less painful than hard wax! Not many places in Hawaii offer it 🍯
