  • The only time I ever saw Notre Dame in-person was from a boat, floating down the Seine River, 21 years ago. It was a cold and drizzly February day evidenced by the inky smears on my sketch pad. It’s terrible to see the devastation of such historical beauty but I have no doubt it will be restored to its former glory. And maybe I’ll get the opportunity to sketch it again one day, from the inside. #tbt #notredame #paris

  • There have been a few moments in my life that have left me standing in complete awe... 1. Driving through the foot hills into the Rocky Mountains.
2.Standing inside the Colosseum near sunset in Rome.
3. Sailing the Whitsundays and great barrier reef in Australia.
4. Seeing both of my babies for the first time.
5.Standing on our plot of land before we started the build.
The first experience I remember where I stood in complete awe as a young adult was when I travelled to Paris for University and stood in front of the Notre Dame. I was so far from home and my family. I felt so small, so alone, and so alive! I felt all the emotions standing in that square.
I am deeply saddened by the news yesterday.

I suppose history has taught us that there is room to mourn and to rebuild, to create a new chapter and layer in our historical landscape.

I'd love to hear your moments of being completely awe-struck! Please share!! Photo 1: @paulsandersonphoto

  • There are no words to express what has been lost with this awful fire in Notre-Dame de Paris which has caused the destruction of two-thirds of the roof and the spire. Considered to be one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture, it has witnessed so many momentous historical events from it's beginnings in 1160. Our hearts go out to the French people on this day of shock and mourning.

  • We are sad to hear of the Notre Dame fire that occurred yesterday, where the roof and spire were destroyed. We hope that it will be restored. Images: Notre Dame in 1901, Notre Dame in 1991, and in 1945: American GI's get rid of their military ratio for a while and enjoy icecreams, the banners of the Liberation still floating over the cathedral, spring 1945 / Tallandier / Bridgeman Images

  • Notre Dame survived the French Revolution! 💪🏽🔥
.
.
Undeniably our hearts were literally melting with every minute of the fire last night, but today, despite the sadness, I think is good we remember that our Lady of Paris has been through even harder times before ⚠️ Let us remember that during the French Revolution an important part of the façade (specially the line of kings) was destroyed, that the bells (except for Emmanuel, the biggest one) were melted and that the interior of the cathedral was used to store gun powder while several art pieces from medieval times were destroyed... The cathedral was left to slowly die.

At the time it was a love story that mobilised the people of France, Victor Hugo and his book Notre Dame de Paris ❤️💃🏾 indirectly saved the building and gave it back to us. I guess nowadays we're lucky knowing that the damage, though highly important, it's not irreparable. The work ahead to bring it back will be long, but I guess we can say now that Our Lady is quite resilient 💪🏽

  • I am in tears with no words to describe how sad this makes me feel to see pictures of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris being destroyed. We were fortunate enough to visit last year where we had the opportunity to go up to the rooftop to see up close the gargoyles and the amazing details of this beautiful monument. This will forever be one of our favorite place in France 🇫🇷. Our thoughts And prayers go out to Paris. 💔💔💔 #history #holyweek #historicmonument #hunchbackofnotredame #notredamedeparis #notredame #ourlady #ourladyofparis #paris #france #prayforparis #humanity #historyofparis #france🇫🇷 #savenotredame #paris2018 “Notre Dame's foundation stone was laid in 1163 by Pope Alexander III, and the cathedral was completed in the 13th century. Today, with its towers, spire, flying buttresses and stained glass, Notre Dame is considered a feat of architecture as well as a major religious and cultural symbol of France.”
