I always get a TON of questions about how I get on a horse (especially one of Daytona’s size 😅) and today I’m answering/showing it!
As you can see in the video, I literally just hop on 🤣🤣 Daytona is a pro at this, although the second I get on she’s ready to go & I didn’t put my stirrup down before hopping on, oh well. It’s usually how it goes anyways 😂
I’ve seen a few other people get on with their prosthetics & then take them off once they’re mounted, but I feel pretty confident in my hopping abilities so I choose to leave my leg in the tack room. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve been mounting this way since I started para dressage & it’s worked phenomenally! If I fall off, all I need is a leg up like anyone else, or I’ll use the mounting block. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I hope this is somewhat interesting & gives a little bit more insight into how things work for a para! If you have any other questions or want to see things, LET ME KNOW!

Hello Instagram, thank you for working again! 👋🏻👋🏻 I have been getting a TON of messages & comments recently asking why I wear a prosthetic, why I don’t have my leg, etc... so I thought I’d make another introductory post about...well me! 😅
My name is Alyssa & I’m a para dressage rider! I was born with a rare condition called Paraxial Tibial Hemimelia which means my right tibia (large lower leg bone) didn’t develop & therefore I couldn’t walk. This happens to about 1 in a million people! CRAZY!
I was born in Ukraine & was adopted at the age of 4 & brought to the US to receive the proper medical care I needed. I had my leg amputated & have been wearing prosthetics ever since!
Now, I live in Rockwall, TX & enjoy each day to the fullest - even if it means I’m just binge watching Netflix! I train at a place nearby & will hopefully be riding 3-4 times a week in the near future & up my training regimen. I have big dreams & am so excited that I get to share them with all of you!
I hope this answered your questions & if you have any questions, I promise I don’t bite - feel free to reach out!
Also, can we take a second to talk about this photo?? Love! I’m also in love with my @americanequus E’lan Dressage stirrups as they have LITERALLY changed the way I ride! No more fonoodling for my stirrup or losing it every couple minutes! 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Almost two years ago I started this Instagram account as a way for me to remember this journey. A journey that I thought would be short lived & fairly uninteresting. To my surprise, it has grown & grown far more than I ever expected it to. I can not thank you all enough for allowing me the opportunity to share my life, passions, struggles & dreams with all of you! I’m humbled every single day that any of you choose to follow me & continue to pour out your love & support for me & my sport. From the bottom of my heart, thank you! Here’s to 20k & to many more memories down the road! 💕💕

Things are picking up this week starting with a BLOG POST on @theblondeandthebay_ blog! I’ve looked up to Maddie for quite sometime, seeing her flawless Instagram & watching her & Leah at shows! She’s so sweet, works so hard & I’m so excited to be able to collaborate with - & hopefully soon in person too! ❤️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m excited to be able to share with you all more & really have you guys get to know me off the ‘gram! I know it can look like I have my life together, but I can assure you I’m a total wreck! 🤣 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not really, but I’ve been through a lot in my life & have done a lot to get to where I am now & the person I am today! This blog post is pretty vulnerable & goes into some stuff I don’t normally talk about, but it happened & I’m so thankful that it did! LINK IN BIO 💕
It’s Tuesday & you know what that means...it’s time for #technicaltuesday & today I’m going to answer my most asked question: WHY DON’T I RIDE WITH MY PROSTHETIC?? So, I actually haven’t always ridden without it & I plan to ride with a prosthetic someday hopefully soon! When I was working in KS I rode with my leg every single day & did perfectly well. When I came to TX to train, there was another para there that rode with her leg off & seeing how well she did I decided that I’d give it a try! I ended up loving it & haven’t gone back to riding with my prosthetic since.
As well, my prosthetic is SUPER expensive because of how technologically advanced it is & it’s not something I want to potentially damage - especially now that the warranty has expired.
I have submitted a grant to CAF & upon their approval (🤞🏻) I can get started on making a riding prosthetic to use while I’m in the saddle! It will be lighter, more durable & basically just there to add some weight & allow for some movement to give cues. I have no idea when something like this will be finished, but hopefully by the end of the year!
I honestly think that riding with/without your prosthetic is personal preference! I prefer without just because it makes my life easier at the moment - plus I accidentally threw away the right boot...so there’s that.
He’s a model and he knows it 🤤
QOTD: Does your horse pose for pictures?
I’m back in Maryland so I am going to do a lot of editing tonight and will finally be able to post videos of all the new riding footage I got last weekend! -

Braider, videographer & photographer, chute help (controlled with a remote, how nifty is that?) ... all while enjoying my glass of cabernet from my to-go cup.
I often have to pinch myself that I’m able to share my life with someone as ambitious about their riding discipline as I am. Enjoy this little B-T-S view of my perspective! I’m just embracing the dressage meets team roping lifestyle one Texas sunset and @cactusropes at a time. #DressageMeetsTeamRoping
It's a little known fact that I've spent nearly 20 years of my life around horses.
For Throwback Thursday I wanted to share a little piece of me that I hold super close to my heart.
In 2011 I was lucky enough to finally get the horse of my dreams - his name was Thaddeus. He was stunning. 18 hands tall, gorgeous dark bay (almost black) with the most beautiful white blaze, white socks, and piercing blue eyes. Sadly, he was only with me for about 6 months before I learned that the person from whom I bought him from didn't disclose that he was going blind (at only 5 years old) and also didn't disclose he had a highly contagious and terminal disease. The vet who did the buyer's exam didn't tell me she was also the seller's vet (who knew how sick he was), and unfortunately he had to be put down.
On September 9th, 2011, I said goodbye to one of the most stunning animals I had ever laid my eyes on. From that day forward my heart hurt too much to even step foot in a barn for months after that.
Nearly 8 years later I find myself missing being in the saddle and I'm hoping to make a point of it this summer to get back to the sport that helped me keep my sanity through my teens (despite the numerous injuries from falls) and that helped to teach me to brush the dirt off and get back up when you tumble.
Okay so I got the new spring catalog from @doversaddlery in the mail today and seriously I need a job 😂. I couldn’t even afford a cart to push around a bucket of poop. But I did see some nice breeches (on clearance of course 😂) I wanna save up for. What’s your favorite brand of breeches?? I really like @irideonridingwear and @kerritseq!! 👌
Throw it back on Thursday
Let’s have a shout out to family and unconditional love
What a beautiful thing - being part of a family. I know that we all have experienced this. That unconditional support and unconditional love. We all have our dysfunctions and not so pretty moments, but in the end, family is there
It’s heart wrenching when families get ripped apart. It’s so hard to think that you don’t have a family - or to feel like you don’t. Let’s embrace those around us, no matter what. We never know what they are going through
Let’s embrace our loved ones and let’s love without any expectations, limits, conditions, or even boundaries. What is there really left to lose at the end of the day?
It’s an investment that you will get in return - no matter what. Even when it doesn’t feel like it
HERE’S TO LOVING *UNCONDITIONALLY*

Drifter is improving so much with loping circles! i know that’s a small accomplishment to some of you, but before i started working on circles, he was all over the place. at first, he wouldn’t stay in a lope for long, and sometimes wouldn’t even get into it. when i finally got to where he would lope a circle, his left was pretty good, but to the right, he was all over the place. they still aren’t perfect, but he’s definitely improved😊 he’s also doing pretty good with weaving poles!
do you use spurs?

you gotta have t-shirts 👌🖤💛 The left image is a computer-generated mock-up, and the right image is the actual shirt! Shirts are being made by The Lucky Unicorn 🦄
The Golden Glen logo will be in GOLD FOIL 🤩🙌✨ Message, call/text, e-mail Erin to order yours! Pricing is VERY reasonable. The sooner we get everyone’s sizes, the sooner we can wear these beauties! 😍
Swipe to see the complete hot mess that we used to be 😂 The second video was taken just over a year ago. I had no control a few strides from the fence. It’s very clear that Rocky and I didn’t trust each other. He also REALLY did not trust that jump, hence why he majorly overjumped it and launched me into the high heavens 🙈
First video was taken a few weeks ago. He didn’t pop up in the canter and wasn’t panicky at all throughout the entire ride. He’s rideable, and most of all... he’s happy!
If you’re struggling with your riding or with your horse, don’t give up! Gather knowledge from a few trainers. Be patient with your horse... and be kind. But most of all, be confident in your abilities and push through what intimidates you. Fate loves the fearless ✨

It's pretty obvious she's been missed♡. 🌿Welcome Spring. 🌼
Smiles for the first day of spring 🌺... and shedding season!
Getting into the swing of riding after a break is always tough, but I’m considering this week’s lessons a reconditioning series for myself. I have plans of bringing back the double bridle to see what Leah’s mood is in regards to her tongue, too. The good news? Word on the street is you can now compete in a 2* CDI with a snaffle...? If so, then we’ll definitely make our 2019 competition debut in the TexOver Farms CDI at the end of April! I’m 26 now so I’ll finally be in the AA division, no professionals this time 🤪
So far, that’s the plan, and we’ll continue to work towards that goal! Really, the pressure is totally off this year, which is such a cool feeling. This mare has given me so much... anything else is simply a cherry on top of a sundae. How is your spring season going so far? #LeahLipstick
A lot of you have said that you wanted to see some posts about Doc, so here’s the first of (hopefully) many! Doc will turn 26 on March 23rd and has been with his owner since he was 5.... that’s over 20 years that they’ve spent together!!! HOW AMAZING IS THAT! He’s a been there done that kinda dude at this point in his life. Such a sweetie that loves to be cuddled and will easily pack around a child or beginner. He does apparently have the occasional spicy moment, but I’ve yet to witness one 😂❤️ he has a leaser so I wasn’t really riding/working him like I do with Thornton and Wyatt. However, his leaser is quite busy, and I have had some more time on my hands lately. Which means, when his leaser can’t make it, I am going to do my best to get on him and hack him around. Gotta make sure the old dude is getting his exercise and much deserved attention 💖 This guy really has a heart of gold. I doubt you’ll be seeing him on my account as often as Thornton and Wyatt, but get used to this fuzzy face because he will pop up every now and then! I’ll be posting videos from my first ride on him later this week when I can get the footage off of my camera. (Ps: I know the bit is twisted on the left side. He shook his head and got it tangled right before I took this picture and I didn’t notice until afterwards 🤦🏼♀️) So, in Docs honor....

I had a 🍔 and 🍟 last night.
But I'm not working out to punish myself.
Instead because I want to workout and it makes me happy.
So often people feel the need to punish themselves for the food they ate.
There's no need for food guilt.
Enjoy your treats as much as you do your healthy foods. 💕
Gypsy was perfect Saturday night! We ran a 16.6 but fell in the cracks of the 3D/4D. New place, first indoor arena run, and no exhibitions! I let her cruise in so she could find the first and not get so lost so we were a little slow. Seasoning a young horse can be so discouraging sometimes but this was by far a win for me!❤️My mom didn’t get the third barrel so check out the first and second! Not quite sure what face I’m making so let’s look past that😂
