This weekend you will find us near the Hot Cross Buns and Chocolate Eggs until it's all hands on deck for our Anzac Day race meeting. Happy Easter 🐰
Day one of the Tasmanian Easter Racing Carnival at the Tasmanian Turf Club's Harvey Norman Launceston Family Fun Day.
Hoping you and yours are enjoying your Good Friday together just as much as the families on course today are!
"African American Jockeys once dominated-or even, some say launched-horse racing in America" - Ron Stodghill (Air bnb Mag). White washing is common in any sport and I was pleasantly surprised to know that isn't the case at the @nmrhof (The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame) in Saratoga Springs . After visiting the museum on a recent trip to Saratoga, I learnt about Jimmy Winkfield, the last African American jockey to win the Kentucky Derby. (In 1901 and 1902). @_airbnbmagazine_ has a great article titled 'The Kentucky Derby's Lost Generation' which profiles several African American jockeys who contributed to the sport. Have you ever learnt anything that shocked you at a museum on your travels?
Literal gale force winds picked up right before the riders mounted up and the rain started slapping right before the gates opened, but Ima Discreet Lady overcame it all and is your 2019 Bluebonnet Stakes winner 💫

Jagged Edge debut race win on 14APR19 R4 Sunny Coast. And Dad congratulates trainee during Sky Racing interview after the win! 🐎 🐎 🥂
Nice card to finish up the Sydney Autumn racing carnival on this Easter long weekend. 2 G1’s and 4 G3’s as well as some good racing at Caulfield and a real nice warm up to the QLD Carnival at Doomben! 2 tips this weekend are looking to break maiden G1 status and with any luck we will see both get across the line!
Randwick: will start with the G1 tips; the first of the G1’s looks a two horse race in the Champagne and I’ve been waiting for both Loving Gaby and CASTELVECCHIO to get out to the mile; Take the latter CASTELVECCHIO too tick off G1 status this weekend; out of Dundeel and on breeding hasn’t been entitled to do anything near what he has; up too a mile it looks his to lose! He peaked late after a long break over 1400m last start but with the added fitness I doubt he will be slowing this time out!
OSBORNE BULLS has finished 2nd in his last 3 starts, all at G1 level and today in the All Aged Stakes looks his day; 1400m won’t be a problem, he loves Randwick and unlike Pierata the firmer ground won’t pose any issues; D’bai the big question mark but I’m willing to back the Australian sprint form over the internationals!
Head back to race 3 and I’m willing to follow AMANGIRI; tactically she will settle up on the pace unlike a few key rivals and from the lower barrier draw will do a fraction of the work she did last time when leading and going down a head to Aliferous (since ran 4th in the Oaks); she should lead and if she has recovered well into this they are going to need a mammoth run to catch her!
Caulfield: RYAN’S FENDER bloused his rivals last start off a torrid run; he carted the field up to a tear away leader doing a lot of work and then put lengths on them! 2/2 at the distance, 2/2 since being gelded and 3/4 on the good; I’m a huge fan and regardless of the poor draw I think he takes another step in the right direction on Saturday! The early odds are gone but so the each-way play might make the single unit win bet slightly more appealing.
MANOLO BLAHNIQ should have finished much closer last start and arguably should have won in my eyes when being horribly blocked for a run; been chasing him a bit lately but with even luck he gets the cash!
