Technology has transformed the way we work. We're constantly available to our bosses and coworkers through email, texts and calls. We search for new professional opportunities on Indeed and Linked In. We use Facebook and Instagram to attract potential customers. We enroll in online classes or decide to learn Photoshop just in case.
We never really leave the office - now we just take it with us. Stop and think. When's the last time you went a day without doing anything work related? Are you tired?
Many Americans have passed being tired and have now entered a state of burn out.
The Mayo Clinic defines burn out as a "state of physical, emotional or mental exhaustion combined with doubts about one’s competence and work value," (Mayo Clinic, n.d.). According to new research from Kronos Inc., employee burn out should be treated as a modern day epidemic (Wilkie, 2017). Workplace burn out destroys individual confidence and potential in high performers. Organizations suffer as employee disengagement increases while productivity decreases.
It is our hope that this blog will help individuals and organizations prevent and recover from burn out. Stay tuned!
