Over the past few years I’ve been researching the impact of technology on humans, with a specific focus on the workplace. Through multiple global studies, and writing my book #backtohuman , I’ve concluded that technology is going to have an even bigger impact on the future of jobs than you may think. Since people are using it earlier in life, their addiction to it will have long term consequences. The isolation and loneliness that happens when children are staying at home looking at screens (phones, tablets, Alexa, Siri, video games and soon virtual reality) is hurting their social skills. As technology continues to automate all tasks other than soft skills, eventually we will have an entire generation who won’t be able to fill job roles. Right now, hard/technical skills are in high-demand as advanced forms of technology devices/artificial intelligence are built, but once the groundwork is set, those skills will depreciate in value and soft/human skills will be in higher demand. Unfortunately, upcoming generations won’t have those soft skills because of their overuse of technology.

Just like a customer journey there is fall out as we get closer to the end (or further down the funnel), however usually in a candidate journey the balance of power is in your favour (i.e., you’re the one making the cuts) ⚖️
The application and interview process is often the first chance that candidates get to ‘look behind the curtain’ (or the curated world you might show on social media) and get a real sense for your business🕵🏻♀️
Through this phase you can help candidates to self-select by being clear with expectations and cultural standards so they can assess whether these align with their own expectations and values 📝
It is also a great opportunity to make a lasting [positive] impression on every person who flows through your process. Make the “not today’s” your biggest brand champions by giving them a great experience; taking the time to respond to their queries, follow up when you say you will and give them some constructive feedback!
