  • Finally got myself to Lake Bonney Riverland.
I was almost not going to visit here because there's many places where you can find these trees sitting in the lakes. But @lisamilne talked me into it....and glad she did.
I arrived in absolute darkness. No moonlight no nothing. I had no idea of the surroundings at all. I should say it wasnt this particular spot but another location known as Pelican Point. I planned on doing some astro. I walked around in pitch black and my mind was in overdrive. There was lots of long dry grass rustling in the breeze and of course in my mind that must have been some creature lurking and stalking for a kill 😬 I went to walk closer to the waters edge and it was very soft and spongy from the grass. I could hear something moving in the water but couldn't see anything anywhere. And i started to wonder if there were crocodiles 😬 So i messaged Lisa and she assured me it was just pelicans. I still couldnt see any though.
The clouds kind of ruined my astro attempts.
I had also read of an angry farmer that doesn't like people hanging around that spot. And while I was there in darkness, a four-wheel drive pulled up and just stood there with his lights on staring for 30 seconds and then drove off. I decided it was time to get out of there.
I drove around and found some other locations suitable for Sunrise. This ended up being that spot. There was alot of potential this morning but it didnt quite happen. The sun showed itself in the V of the tree for a split second but then was covered with thick clouds. So this is one of the shots I'll share and late a nice black and white shot just further up from here.
This spot is great because of how flat it is and the visibility to the sun. Plus there are so many options and compositions of the many trees around the lake. I really enjoyed this spot. But I'm not going to lie it's a bit freaky at night if you've never been there beforehand.

  • Apologies again to the campers. I know we woke you up! Sure they were wondering what the heck was happening when we were shooting Astro and then cane back In the early hours for sunrise and were set up all around their tents. To be fair though it’s not exactly a camping spot ...
I was happy to get my 10 stop out this day. There’s 15% off all Nisi right now so if you want your own click the link in my bio.
