  • Do you find the 1920s flapper (Gatsby) era fascinating?
.
I think that the Roaring 20s was such an amazing and exhilarating time! I love to read stories from that era! I am so excited to read City of Flickering Light by @juliette_fay !! This Historical Fiction book is set in 1920s Hollywood and sounds so full of glitz, glamor, friendship and love. It released on April 16th and I will leave the synopsis below!
.
Thank you so much to @gallerybooks for gifting me with this free book and nail polish!
_________________________________________________________
It’s July 1921, “flickers” are all the rage, and Irene Van Beck has just declared her own independence by jumping off a moving train to escape her fate in a traveling burlesque show. When her friends, fellow dancer Millie Martin and comedian Henry Weiss, leap after her, the trio finds their way to the bright lights of Hollywood with hopes of making it big in the burgeoning silent film industry.
.
At first glance, Hollywood in the 1920s is like no other place on earth—iridescent, scandalous, and utterly exhilarating—and the three friends yearn for a life they could only have dreamed of before. But despite the glamour and seduction of Tinseltown, success doesn’t come easy, and nothing can prepare Irene, Millie, and Henry for the poverty, temptation, and heartbreak that lie ahead. With their ambitions challenged by both the men above them and the prejudice surrounding them, their friendship is the only constant through desperate times, as each struggles to find their true calling in an uncertain world. What begins as a quest for fame and fortune soon becomes a collective search for love, acceptance, and fulfillment as they navigate the backlots and stage sets where the illusions of the silver screen are brought to life.
.
With her “trademark wit and grace” (Randy Susan Meyers, author of The Murderer’s Daughters), Juliette Fay crafts another radiant and fascinating historical novel as thrilling as the bygone era of Hollywood itself.

  • #sponsored Thank you @amazonpublishing for a copy of #TheEighthSister by #RobertDugoni
.
We had a thunder storm last night. I don’t know about you, but grey skies and the sound of rain makes me want to crawl under my covers with a book and my pup. I’m at work right now and asking myself why must I adult?
.
I started this book last night and read a few chapters. Though this was a #gifted copy, I ended up getting the audiobook as well because I love the narrator Eduardo Ballerini! Though not my usual go-to genre, I’m pretty sucked in. Really loving the fast and intense pacing and enjoying the setting in Russia. This is so silly but in the very beginning, there is mentioning of the main character visiting his dog’s’ graves, and I started crying thinking of Belle. Anyone ever out of the blue think of their pet leaving your side and get emotional?
.
Anyhow, back to the book!
#TheEighthSister is a pounding thriller of espionage, spy games, and treachery and is now available on Amazon. I’ve read a couple of books published by Amazon (Monsoon Mansion, Everyone Knows You Go Home) but never realized they were published by Amazon! If you like fast-paced thrillers about espionage and treachery, definitely check this novel out! Link in bio~

  • What If It’s Us
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

📦 Synopsis:
It all started with a post office. Then it all started with a missed connections add. Then it all started with a wanted poster. Then it all started with... well you get the point. Arthur and Ben have a chance run in at the post office, but then they’re forced apart before they can make a connection. But fate has a different plan. After their first date, their second first date, and their third first date, they both begin to wonder, can they make this relationship work? Or is the universe trying to tell them something?
•
📦 Review:
I really enjoyed this! Going into the story I had read both authors work before and loved it, so I had high hopes for this one.

Arthur and Ben are well developed characters who enter a very flushed out relationship. I felt like I really got to know them individually and could sincerely form an opinion on the compatibility of their relationship.

As always, Becky and Adam’s writing was amazing. No complaints. And from following the authors on Instagram, I could definitely figure out who wrote which character. But I loved that! You could see so much of each author in their character!

Unfortunately, what would’ve been a 4.5/5 star book came crashing down because of the ending. I won’t spoil it, but I felt extremely unsatisfied. And I understand what the authors were trying to do, but I just didn’t agree with it.
•
📦 Overall Thoughts:
I would definitely recommend this one! Especially if you’ve enjoyed these authors in the past.

  • Well, my TBR has clearly shifted in a matter of a week🤷🏻‍♀️
.
I finished A Feast For Crows (Book 4 of GOT) yesterday and like I said in my previous post, I got kind of bored. Book 4 targets more of the minor characters like Brienne and Sam, Iron Islanders, Dornishmen and 2 big of the bigger players in the game Jamie & Cerci.
I’m not saying it wasn’t totally entertaining at all, but I’m more of a Jon, Arya, Tyrion and Daenerys kind of gal🔥❄️
Coming soon A Dance With Dragons🐉 .
To give myself tiny break from Westeros, I started reading Next Year In Havana yesterday and am already hooked with only being about 50 pages in✨ Chanel Cleeton’s writing is magnificent and I can’t wait to continue reading about Marisol and her Grandmother!
.
Lastly, with my trip to Nashville next week it’s only fitting to channel some Rock n’ Roll vibes with Daisy Jones and The Six🎸✨
.
Have you read or are planning to read any of these babies?

  • 🔺ABITUDINI LETTERARIE 🔺
.
Buon pomeriggio lettori!! 🌻
.

.
Za egzemplarz recenzencki dziękuję @wydawnictwo_novaeres .

  • Paris, December 1793.

Mary Wollstonecraft peered cautiously through the curtained window into Rue Verrier, taking care not to cast a shadow. The watcher was still there, lounging against a tree in the dark.

The madness of the revolution lurched onward like a drunken grenadier wielding a bloody sword. She’d watched as the once-king Louis XVI sat bolt upright and defiant as he passed by in the tumbril on his way to the guillotine. That was one year ago, and still the blood flowed. Most of the Girondin leaders, some of them her friends, had been beheaded, and the Jacobins were securing their power in a reign of terror that knew no limits.
As an Englishwoman and an enemy of the state, only her American lover, Gilbert Imlay, stood between her and the threat of excecution as a spy, and staying in Paris was a risk. Her hands strayed to her swelling belly; she could not afford that risk now.

She backed away from the window, gently eased the door open, and moved silently along the deserted hallway to the last panel in the wall; pressing it firmly. It slid smoothly aside and she entered the dark narrow stairwell down to an underground passage. Emerging from a narrow doorway in Rue de Renard, she hurried to the waiting carriage that was to take her to Le Havre, and her lover.

Mary Wollstonecraft was a writer and advocate for women’s rights at time when they were considered appendages of marriage. Her seminal work ‘A Vindication of the Rights of Woman’, (1792) was her most influential work. She was a strong supporter of the revolution, but dismayed by the ‘Reign of Terror’ that followed.

My first book, ‘Wide Sky People’, is to be published by Austin Macauley. It’s a rollicking adventure set in 19th century Australia, and follows the Thornton family from Galway as they seek a new life.

JT Maxwell has it all . . . well, almost. He’s a US Marshal, he looks like he belongs in an aftershave commercial, and he has tattoos—lots of tattoos. Unfortunately, he’s also in debt up to his pretty blue eyeballs. Between that and his recent divorce, his personal life is nonexistent these days. But when a free-spirited artist approaches him for a no-strings-attached one-night stand, things suddenly start looking up.⠀
⠀
Anya Alves’s life is a mess. She’s lost her job, caught her boyfriend cheating on her, and if it weren’t for the house-sitting gig she just landed, she’d be homeless. On top of all that, her creative muse has up and disappeared. If she doesn’t get it back, her burgeoning career as an artist will be over before it starts. But after indulging in a steamy hook-up with a guy who makes it easy to forget her troubles, she gets her mojo back.⠀
⠀
The last thing she expects when starting her house-sitting job, is to see her sexy one-night stand again . . . living right across the street.⠀

  • What is the weather like where you are?
☕️
Good morning friends, I apologize for the unimaginative question today but I’m still really sick. This caption will also be short. We leave for San Francisco tonight so I’m praying I start to feel better 😭 I hope you all have a lovely day!

  • Oi, leitores ✨
.
~ Mila 🦊
.
E você, como foram as suas leituras? Conta pra gente aí nos comentários 😘

  • Hello there 🖤
•
Not much to say today, but here's a reading update-I finished The Night Circus on Tuesday. 3.5 ⭐ My mini review is in my highlights 🖤
I started this lovely book yesterday morning! I'm so in love already. The Princess and the Fangirl is so much fun so far! 🖤🖤
•
•
Qotd-(Ha! I didn't forget!) How would your describe your sense of humor?
•
Aotd-I tend to be sarcastic and self deprecating (in a funny way..at least funny to me 🤷😂) When it comes to something like Cards Against Humanity, I often lean towards dark/twisted lol

Ahah) : - blanc : Shades of magic de V.E.

  • After a bit of debate, I’m going to work on my prologue / introduction into the history of the cure book. 😊 I’m excited to work on the back story and share with you how this world is forming in my head.
It’s not shocking, but these characters are really fighting for me to speak to their stories. In order to do that, I shall begin at the very beginning. 😁😁

  • Hello + happy Thursday! Next up on my TBR list: The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai! This book has been all over Instagram lately. Seriously, everywhere. Not that I’m complaining—I’m obsessed with the cover🙌🏾 But now I’m really excited to get started! Although the reviews have been mostly positive, I’ve also read a couple negative ones, so we’ll see! If you read this one, what’d you think?
.
.
I’m also reading The Bride Test by Helen Hoang this week. I’m exactly halfway and I LOVE it. I actually prefer this storyline to The Kiss Quotient. What are you reading this week?

  • “The Immortalists” by Chloe Benjamin (read October 2018) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This one is such a great book club choice. Not only is it wonderfully well-written and captivating, but it really makes you think about self-determination versus destiny. I recommend this to everyone. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • “In The Woods” by Tana French (read November 2017) ⭐️⭐️⭐️. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is the first in a series called “Dublin Murder Squad.” All of the books can be read as a stand-alone though (the main character is someone who was a side character in the others, so there are possibly light spoilers if you read out of order, but not enough to ruin the reading experience). Tana French is an excellent author and delivers a great twist, but this suffered from a problem common amongst many first novels - it tried to do too much. Still highly recommend the series. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
