While our pets always serve as four-legged alarm clocks each morning before dawn, taking photos at day's beginning can be a task. But it's a useful exercise in persistence to do it. This morning, after the pets were fed, I wandered out to the prairie for some photos. All were made in about 45 minutes, beginning at sunrise. Country folks have a habit of letting their dogs wander on the roads. I hope the little beagle's okay. Early-morning light is nice. #sunrise#texas#blacklandprairie#texasphotographer#igtexas#inspiretexasnow#nikon#nikonusa#texasbackroads
The Gillespie County Fair, the oldest continuous county fair in Texas, finishes up its 131st year this weekend.
The fair is an endurance test. Tackling the livestock show, horse races, vegetable contest, crafts display, carnival, and concert requires some pacing. Between the mutton busting, goat roping, and antique tractor show, time evaporates.⠀
The carnival gets busy at night. People line up for the Ferris wheel and the chance to win a goldfish. Thrill seekers prefer the Top Gun, a contraption that swings them toward the stars, circles them around a giant hinge, and plunges them back to earth. “The kids love the rides the most,” says Hannah Chenault, a longtime fairgoer from Floresville. “My husband and I come for the live music and country dancing.”⠀
Ucluelet, Canada- I found this growing in between the rocks right next to the ocean. I was barely able to capture it before the sun was completely gone. No one has been able to tell me what it’s called. Can you tell me what it is? . . .

My summer came together yesterday. Big dramatic sky, a cool wind, and plenty of hay in the quiet community of Cottondale.
“Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes. Because for those who love with heart and soul there is no such thing as separation.” -Rumi
I am terrible at goodbyes. I tend to just withdraw inwardly or pretend it isn’t happening.
Today we left our youngest at college. He will be fine. He will do great. I struggled with saying goodbye.
Next week we transition from our home of twenty years to our new home five hours away, five hours from some of our dearest friends. I’m avoiding saying goodbyes.
It’s all exciting. And emotional. I’m looking forward to it and dreading it at the same time.
I embrace change. I love new ventures and adventures.
But goodbyes... I’m still learning.
