pray tell as greek god of the sun and music, apollo🌟☀️ WOAHHH billy porter as pray tell is the best thing EVER. pray tell is one of my favorite characters on this show. there’s such a nuance that billy porter brings to this character, that he is so much more than the loud flamboyance he presents at balls, yet that flamboyance is such a very big part of who he is. having to make himself palatable to people outside of his community is something i align myself with so so much. i chose apollo because he is the god of the sun, light, and music. he is benevolent and ruthless, just as the sun is, just as pray tell is. so thank you to billy porter for making me crack up and sob simultaneously every time i watch an episode☀️
This simple build is officially done. It’s always nice when you can build for your own home. She is stained in golden oak with @minwaxusa helsman outdoor spar urethane. The base - I went pretty simple - I wanted this who build to be as no fuss as possible so I used India ink & it was the easiest process ever! So easy to apply and so fast to dry!
I’m doing a bit of an altered 30 day photo challenge for this month into next while I’m moving and getting settled for college. Today’s prompt was “Self Portrait” and though I’ve done many of those I decided to do something a bit more cutesy and include some extra things. I’m pretty smart, I love nature and crafting things.

Sketch from last week’s yoga in Bryant Park. It was quite a weird experience, almost like a public performative art show. Go to my journal (link in bio) to read more! #nellsoriginals

India ink and crayon on paper
In first grade, an art teacher showed us how to shave broken crayons with a scissor and then use an iron (with an adult) to melt the shavings onto our drawings. Even as a kid, I was specific about my tools and broken crayons frustrated me 😅 So I was excited to try something new!
My art teacher said that part of the magic of melting broken crayons was seeing what shapes were made. I was hooked and it’s still something that I enjoy doing today.
That is the only memory of that art teacher and I think her name was Ms. Mazza or Mazda. I’m not sure but I think about her every time I use crayons and when my brush tip pens begin to wear. It’s strange how a single art class can have such a long lasting impact on someone. I guess I just want to say, thank goodness for teachers ☺️

Not a huge anime person but I've been slowly chipped away at by suggestions from a few friends. I remember being like any other person my age and loving DBZ when I was a teenager. Was thinking of getting into drawing some anime characters but in my own style. As a quick warm-up I did this headshot of Goku.
This is a bit outside of my typical wheelhouse. I don’t usually do portraits but I enjoyed making this one of my Uncle Bill. He’s one of the most interesting and charismatic people I know. Him and my aunt have a beautiful farm where they raise sheep, cattle, and goats. They are both excellent stewards of the land with sustainable farming practices and fighting against the fracking that is ravaging the land around them.
My uncle is a talented bass player. He always wears a cowboy hat, but when he’s performing he likes to wear a shirt with a bit of flair. He will be getting surgery on his hand soon and will have to take a break from playing the bass. Hopefully this serves as a bit of a pick-me-up for him.
Progression and then regression. It was all going well until I decided to get too heavy handed with the Indian Ink in my new water brush pen. It’s going to take along time to flatten out before it can be finished, because I’m a div and did the drawing on cartridge paper and not canvas. #dragon#indiaink
