Time - 8hrs 53min
6th position, my first top 10 finish 😊
.
“Persistence can change failure into extraordinary achievement.”– Marv Levy ‘Persistence' was my word for this race. I went into this race with a small ankle injury which happened 2 weeks before during recce. It dint stop me completely from running but pain was still there on race eve. With a hope that it will hold up, I began running strong climbing a steep hill in first 5k. Then there was sharp technical decent through forest which I was running cautiously and suddenly 'click' the right ankle twisted again having stepped on uneven root. A sharp pain!! .
It wasn’t too bad to stop but ankle became immediately heavy. I started getting anxious, “ its too early!”. That anxiety carried on till 30km and my heart rate was unusually high. To add on that I started feeling sick in stomach for no specific reason. It was all going down south.😭 . “If anything can go wrong, it will” – whispered Murphy in my ears.
Embracing the facts I just kept executing the splits which I had planned. Embracing helped me to calm down. But then came another blow, cramps! I was getting them frequently and almost in every part of body 🤪
. ‘Persistence’ – I kept pushing. I started crossing few runners. Soon it was 3 of us chasing invisible no5. I had recced last 25 km and seeing the familiar ground I went for the move. I starting climbing hard creating gap from others and decided that I won’t let anyone cross me. 😓 Soon number 5 was insight. Amidst stomach issues, pukish feeling and cramps my mind was zeroed on number 5. “if I can see him I can catch him”. He pulled me till last 5k where I lost him completely on decent. Unknowingly, he brought out best in me in some of worst times 👍🏼 Next – the main big project of this yr. Watch this space 😉
Stay hydrated!! .
Thx to all friends, family,my coach and #teampyllon , work colleagues and my rock @radhi.sethi with whom this adventure was an eternal memory

• Starting from Sumur (10300ft) at 6 PM passing through world highest motorable paas Khardung La (17700ft) and ending at Leh (13500ft) at 1:55 PM.
• It takes 19:55 hrs without rest
• Oxygen level is below 50%
• Rainfall and Snowfall for the entire night
• Temperature -8°C
Once again I am very thankful to my friends and seniors of Adventure Sports Club IIT Kanpur for every possible help.

  • So did you run today in the bubble?

From doing a spin to be free doing your miles for your own self, running slowly and steadily got replaced by run (spend some $$$) for making an organizer richer ( in the name of some random social cause) and play with your inflated ego (medals). More $$$, more greedy organizers and the vicious cycle.

Running (at least in India) is now well and truly a bubble and it's gonna explode someday not very far in the future. (taking cues from the US model which is being mimicked in India). Monkey see, Monkey do. Boo!

The so called boom in running reminds me somewhat of a notion that is quoted in the tech world as the ‘hype cycle’ (developed by analysts, Gartner). The hype-cycle graph characterises the over-enthusiasm or ‘hype’ and subsequent disappointment that typically happens with the introduction of new technologies.
It's not about How, it's about WHEN.

  • Shashwat Rao is a historic new Asia Trail Grandmaster, the first runner from India to complete the Quest! Shashwat is a pretty fast guy but even more an ultra endurance athlete. His ATM Grandmaster record reads: Penang Eco 100 Miles (2018/MAS), Dalat Ultra Trail 70 (2018/VIE), Mantra Summits Challenge 75 (2018/INA), Plataran X Trail Bali 70 (2018/INA), The 9 Dragons Ultra 50/50 (2019/HKG) and Ijen Trail 100 (2019/INA). What’s all the more amazing is that Shashwat Rao is flying from India to all these race weekends! He is a driving force for the Solang Sky Ultra in his native region in northern India on 5/6 October as well. • 🇰🇷Independence day Running 🇮🇳
.
15th August is Independence day in both Korea and India. I registered when I saw paper attached in my apartment because it was truely amazing. Free t-shirts, Free medal, Free drinks! I didnt expected at all cause it was held in gurgaon. But so many people were running really hard🏃🏻‍♀️ It was absolutely hot that I was so hard and exhausted, but after I finished my race It was extremely cool! And I knew what is commons and diffences between Korea and India’s running competition🙌🏻
Please participate when you visit India! It is quiet cool experience you can feel only in India✈️
.
