"Every generation pretends gang crime is a new problem." Rapper and author @akalamusic says the social indicators of violence have "remained identical for almost 200 years". #Akala

In a sane society, taxes help pay for safe streets, parks, education, community, addressing climate change, helping those less fortunate than us enter a path of opportunity, disaster response, healthcare. Particularly on a local level, it’s not only possible but easy to tax your way into living in one of the happiest, healthiest towns in the world—we, here in Boulder, Colorado, should know--we’ve done it. ~ @waylonlewis 🗽 #commonwealth vs. #inequality

It would be hard to say "Happy Women's Day" to those Vietnamese women, as they do not seem to be happy. .
Lots of them spend their long days hard-working in the ricefields, on the streets, in the markets ... Many of them still work every day despite their age of 70, or even 80! .
Each of them might have their own sad stories, very sad, that they just can't say out loud, for many reasons. .
They may be farmers who have lost all their farmland due to golf courses or horses racing facilities projects that took thousands hectares of ricefields.
They may be fishing women who lose their jobs due to bans on fishing during a so-called "dead fishes catastrophe", while some large companies made huge profits thanks to their monopoly over the fishing markets.
Unable to find another job, they ended up joining the army of street vendors (and hundreds of thousands younger people who have no choice but joining the labour export migration, working in very bad conditions in Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Malaysia and many other countries). .
Others have to continue to work even when retired just because their pension is not enough to survive when prices of everything have rocketed due to inflation and economic bubbles, while at the top of the scheme, the super-rich are getting richer..
These are other facets behind beautiful images of this country trying to attract tourists to boost it's economy. .
Those Vietnamese women deserve much better. A Women's day just can't do anything for them.

As a video producer who seeks to reduce inequality in all of its forms, artist-driven documentaries and emerging media projects are crucial to my efforts.
I’m constantly trying to disrupt #stereotypes , and help transform the conditions that perpetuate #injustice and #inequality .
Next week I’m shooting a recycling project. Young refugee children, using leftover #easteregg packaging, pen and paper to create a stop animation project, documenting there experiences in #London#England since being forced to leave what they called #HOME
For some of these #children , it’s the first Easter eggs they’ve ever had.
#timelineofhistory On August 29, 1786, Shay’s Rebellion began. Nathaniel Shay started the rebellion over social and economic inequalities in the United States. While the rebellion was crushed, a lack of unity and troop resources in the nation showed how weak the Articles of Confederation were. In effect, the rebellion caused the Constitutional Convention. #shaysrebellion#inequality#america#articlesofconfederation
Last night I witnessed the most stunning sunset. As my partner and I sat in awe at this natural beauty, I thought about how much my life has changed since I was driven to put a rope around my neck by my abuser and the authorities, all those years ago.
Sure, it’s not all be plain sailing and there have been a fair few low points since, but that’s life and this sunset was a huge reminder of how you should never ever give up.
Today, I’m happier than I’ve ever been and if you’re a sufferer of domestic abuse, please don’t give up, better things are coming.
Protests over wealth inequality that have stretched on over the last 5 months have intensified this week in Paris, following the over $1 billion donated towards the reconstruction of the cathedral of Notre Dame.
The iconic over-8-centuries-old Catholic cathedral burned a week ago.
Since then - in less than ONE WEEK - powerful entities and Catholic supporters like Disney have donated a total of over $1 billion towards its reconstruction.
It is known that the Catholic Church are pedophiles.
People in Paris are rioting in the streets, according to a report from The Guardian.
Mainstream media reports that Cathedral authorities say: 'We don't know if it's enough': $1 billion may not cover Notre Dame Cathedral rebuilding costs after fire ~ Source
This is not my topic of choice or area but this MUST be echoed. Are we so blind to what’s right treatment of another human being? Another life? These “cops” or “protectors” weren’t in fear of their lives... how can we justify this?
Fascinating. How we define "nice," #BronxvilleVillage . He is saying that our refusal to check #inequality will doom us. #Bronxville 's "comprehensive plan" (formerly "community plan") has been underway for a year. The main focus now is a survey — LINK IN PROFILE — that Village Hall paid $122,000 for. There has been no talk, in this reporter's presence, of figuring out a way to turn #VillageOfBronxville into a #GatedCommunity over the next decade. But how will we know, in the future, who is "nice"? Please, answer the survey. If the responses fall below a certain number, the exercise was useless, its data inadequate to comprehending, "comprehensively," this community's true needs. #TheBronxville #BronxvilleRealEstate
Yellow Vest protests broke out in Eastern Paris. The group is enraged that a billion dollars could be raised by the French government to help rebuild the severely damaged Notre Dame, while their demands to fight wealth inequality remain largely ignored. They were also outraged the President Macron cancelled a speech proposing solutions to the groups grievances in the wake of the Notre Dame fire. Police have fired tear gas into the crowd as protests became violent, and firefighters have been called to put out a number of fires. 189 people have been detained and 110 put into custody. There are an estimated 10,000 protesters in France. The protesters have met every Saturday since November.
What do you think?
How should France deal with these protests?
Are the protesters misguided or right in their actions? Let us know!
"According to scripture, economic inequality is sinful," writes John Thornton in the April issue of Sojourners. "So what does that mean for those of us who have money in our bank accounts, perhaps even a 401(k)?" You can read Thornton's essay on faithful discipleship and finances at sojo.net. One after the other, France’s three richest families opened their checkbooks and pledged a combined $565 million to rebuild the fire-ravaged Notre Dame cathedral in Paris.
The donations should go a long way to restoring Notre Dame, but they’ve also sparked a debate about wealth, taxes and the particular brand of philanthropy practiced by France’s richest families.
Critics argue the donations would be better spent on social programs to help the poor in a country where rising inequality has contributed to the outbreak of recent street protests.
Pope Francis presided at a Good Friday service in St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City where he listened as a preacher denounced widespread inequality in the world. This is the first of two services at which the pope presides for the holiday and one of the few during the year where he does not give a sermon.
399 days until the wedding day.
Myself and Al have only been together for 556 days. Living together for 357. So much has happened in that short time I can't imagine all the exciting memories we will make in the next year

Restayle process begins... A very old handmade drawing against the brutality of human actions. - inequality
- indifference ( no emphaty )
- money over everything
- everything over "humans shoulders"
- slimy action
- looking for only own profit
- closed minds
- rage by rage, hate by hate
- no self knowledge
Pg. 151 'I looked into his eyes again. This may have been the very first time I ever really looked into a white man's eyes. It stopped me, I stood still. It was not like looking into a man's eyes. It was like nothing I knew, and- therefore- it was very powerful. It was seduction which contained the promise of rape. It was rape which promised debasement and revenge: on both sides. I wanted to get close to him, to enter into him, to open up that face and change it and destroy it, descend into the slime with him. Then, we would both be free: I could almost here the singing'.
I came across an article in the @guardian, and the headline read ' Half of England is owned by 1% of the population'.
The nature of oppression has changed. Instead of plantations, whips and chains... it's all about what side of the tax bracket you're in. Money is the new master, and it seems that much of it still remains in one place. #ifbealestreetcouldtalk , #atypicalreader , #jamesbaldwin , #guardianarticle , #socialmobility , #blackauthors , #Currentlyreading , #bookthoughts , #inequality
