A S P I R A T E | 💥Safety, safety, safety!! When aspirating (withdrawal of the syringe plunger before injecting any filler), this flash of blood at the hub of the needle is what I am looking for. Aspirating prior to injecting is a safety measure to check whether the needle tip is in a blood vessel or not. If blood is seen at the hub of the needle, I know I am in a blood vessel and I won’t inject at this point. Another injection point is chosen and the same aspiration test is performed to ensure that the needle is not in another blood vessel. Injecting into a vessel leads to vascular occlusion which can cause tissue necrosis (death) and/or visual impairment such as blindness. Taking the time to perform safety checks to keep my beauty babes safe and prevent any complications related to accidental intravascular injections will always be my priority, forever and always! .
I have seen the best and worst of muscle relaxants. Being a mum it is extremely important I send the right messages to my children, such as when I am frustrated & furious I want them to see it in my face 😠. Likewise when I want to be nurturing and praise positive behavior 😍it’s important they read this in all my body language. So as great as a frozen poker face is, for me it’s not an ideal result.
Communication is such an important and difficult part of everyday life. Being able to interpret body language and facial expressions is an important part of communicating. My little sponges learn even my most peculiar micro expressions 😬 blows my mind 🤯. .
If you don’t want to freeze your face and lose your unique expressions, please consult a professional injector with experience and commitment to ongoing education. .

Neurotoxin Injections (like Dysport and Botox) used judiciously can refresh and maintain natural looks.

It’s amazing how much a little chin filler can help balance the profile and define the jawline. I used one syringe of Restylane Defyne in this sweet patient’s chin and we are thrilled with the results!

One of the most common questions we get asked by clients is, “Will I bruise?”.... 💭
And the answer we give is; There is always a chance of bruising, as we are entering the skin with a shape instrument. We cannot possibly see all of the tiny vessels that lay beneath the skin, however we can see some (as shown in the image) and we can also take certain preventative measures to ensure minimal bruising is caused. Most bruising is slight and subsides in the days post treatment.
This client did NOT bruise, as measures were taken to avoid injecting into the ‘spider web’ of vessel you can see.
Boy! This morning was so emotional and so hard for me. I honestly didn’t think it would be so hard for me to start with injections again. But I went into panic mode and I felt so scared and nervous. Every time my husband came near me with the needle I’d push him away or I’d turn away from him. He kept telling me it wasn’t going to hurt but in my mind I just needed time to feel comfortable and as ready as I could be. In the end all it took was holding my little man’s hand and looking at him and remembering that this is the journey we took to make him and how blessed we are to have him. So 6 minutes later and with no help from Buzzy, we finally got the first jab done 🙌🏻
It really really doesn’t hurt. And I hope by sharing some of the quick videos in my stories and highlights helps anyone else about to start injections for the first time. You just need to overcome the first one and then the rest will be a breeze.

Our clinic @faceequation was founded by the lovely and talented Melissa (artist and cat lover!). 👩🏻🎨🐱 @melissa.symons.art
Melissa was a client of our Medical Director, Dr. Brian Kim at his previous clinic. When he moved locations and couldn’t inject due to a competition clause, she brought him into Sundance Chiropractic and Wellness - the home of Face Equation.
And so the story began...

🔹 Believe it or not - this can happen! Botox resistance happens when someone builds up antibodies to Botox, or just metabolizes it more quickly. This resistance contributes to underwhelming results, a reduced effect, or no effect at all. .
🔹When I work with new patients, I always treat quite conservatively the first time. I’m still learning their face and how their muscles respond to the drug. It’s important to be careful. As you likely know, once Botox/Dysport is injected, the effects are generally irreversible and you must wait a couple months until the muscles begin to move again. You can always add more but you can’t take it away. .
🔹The goal is to have you return for your Dysport/Botox treatments once every 3 or 4 months. If you are receiving treatment more frequently then that you are increasing your chances for developing a resistance. Best estimates and available research places Botox resistance at around 1% of users of the drug. Why does this happen?
🔹 Both Botox and Dysport are protein complexes, and in some cases, the body’s immune system may respond by producing its own neutralizing (blocking) antibodies which inactivate the biological activity of the drugs - causing reduced or no effect at all. If I am recommending that we increase your dose - it’s not for you to spend more money. It’s an estimate of how much product I think you will need, based on my education and my experience, for you to look great, avoid side effects and reduce the risk of needing frequent injections which could lead to Botox resistance. Resistance will ultimately cost you more money down the road as you may continue to require more product to see the desired results. Message me for any further questions on this post. Have a great long weekend!
