✨For the person today that’s needs a reminder that your environment & circumstances can break, and you will still fly. YOU are stronger than your circumstances. YOU are worth putting your trust in. If the branch breaks it is just to prove your strength.✨
Sleep is one of the supporting pillars of life. Quality and plentiful sleep rejuvenates and detoxes the mind and body. We accumulate toxins in our brain every day and the toxins get cleaned out through increased flow of our cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). So by missing out on sleep, we don’t give our brain the chance to get rid of the toxins and can accumulate overtime and lead to neurological health problems.
Sleep actually reduces inflammation and feelings of stress. Sleep can alleviate moodiness, depression, anxiety, and irritability. In fact, inadequate sleep can cause all of these symptoms. Sleep can enhance digestion and improve gut health too. Really, good quality sleep is the answer to most health issues! 💤
As a former IBS sufferer, I know firsthand, that when I do not sleep enough, my stomach spasms and my bowel movements become erratic. Workouts, grades, presentations, and work improves with good sleep. Sleep is not only essential, it's medicine. 😴
Follow these steps to improve the quality of your sleep:
1. Use blue-light blocking glasses two hours before bedtime.
2. Adapt an anti-inflammatory lifestyle and diet.
3. Avoid caffeine and even dark chocolate (including cacao) if you have trouble falling or staying asleep.
4. Disengage from negative media, conversations, and reading material a few hours before you go to bed.
5. Cannabis can help completely relax the mind and body, giving you quality sleep. Talk to an expert about medical cannabis use for sleep. Link in profile for my favorites through @hellomd_com. 😴
There are many ways to improve your sleep before resorting to heavy medication and sometimes it takes talking to an expert to see what will work for you. (NOT) Surprisingly, nutrition plays a big part in the quality of sleep you get too. I address sleep right away with my clients and create a personalized sleep hygiene plan for each client. The key to increasing your well-being is taking care of yourself in all areas of your life, not just one. Getting a good night’s sleep on a regular basis is important so that you can perform at your best no matter what you are doing, whether tomorrow will be filled with work or leisure. While we have always known sleep is needed, it is now considered important for both our short and long-term physical and mental health.
However, when you’re busy working and living your life, it’s easy to neglect sleep. It’s often only when our healthy sleep pattern becomes seriously disrupted that we realise just how important a good night’s sleep is. Getting a consistent amount of sleep every night is a challenge at the best of times.
Before we even consider how to sleep better, it’s important to understand what a good night’s sleep is. The National Sleep Foundation recently explained what a typical good night’s sleep is for an adult, with these four factors:
1. You take half an hour or less to fall asleep.
2. You wake up no more than once per night.
3. If you do wake up in the middle of the night, you fall back asleep within 20 minutes.
4. You’re asleep for at least 85% of the time you spend in bed.
If you are regularly meeting all four of these factors then, in general, you don’t have any problems with sleep. However, if you or your family are regularly failing to meet one of the factors then it is likely your healthy sleep pattern has room for improvement.
Join us for our upcoming workshop on SLEEP where we will be taking you through the science and health tips for improving sleep quality so you can enjoy the perfect nights sleep!
Wednesday 27th March at 7pm with Dr. Joe-James Tilley D.C.
The STOPP Technique-
How we sleep has a big influence on our mood and vice versa. If we're unable to shake off a bad temper, that state of mind can negatively impact our sleep which in turn affects how we feel the next day. Next time you're feeling annoyed or frustrated, try using the STOPP technique to bring you back to a positive place.
Step back – take some time before you react. There’s no need to do anything immediately
Take a breath – breath in and out, paying attention to how the breath feels in your body.
Observe yourself – be aware of any thoughts you're having without getting caught up in them.
Perceive it differently – Think about how this will make you feel in a few weeks. Will it still matter to you?
Proceed positively – consider the best way of responding - what would best serve your needs?
THIS IS ME | 19 | 31 | #insomnia has been an unwelcome #stowaway for as far back as I can remember. Sometimes I'm awake because I had caffeine after 2pm. But most times, I'm awake trying to solve some of the world's problems. The problem I've been trying to solve most consistently revolves around #homelessness . Instead of playing "house" sometimes my sister and I would play "homeless center" where we fed the homeless from our bedroom window and offered them showers or buckets to go potty in. Having someone so intensely dear to me be part of that community is more heartbreaking that I can stand. BUT! It does help my troubleshooting and wandering thoughts to be focused on solutions that might actually help and sometimes I grab a #pencil in the dark (that writes terribly, so I have to rewrite later that day because I can’t read them, and since it’s fresh in my mind need to make it more legible for when I forget again) and a piece of #paper and hide in the bathroom so that I can scribble my thoughts out loud at 1:13am. If you’re just joining me, it’s my #birthdaymonth so I decided that I would do a month long #photoproject titled #thisisme . I know... not very original. However, this project is going to be a challenge in a lot of ways because, honestly, I’m still trying to find out who I really am. Also, I thought this could be a fun way to introduce myself to those of you who may not know me very well.
Neurofeedback offers a way to help with sleep problems!
Neurofeedback can help with sleep onset, sleep quality and consistency, and help you feel and perform better
Research suggests that neurofeedback works by increasing sleep spindle density and stabilizing the part of the nervous system that regulates wakefulness, sleep and arousal
Our clients regularly report that after a few training sessions they are better able to fall asleep, stay asleep, and get the 7-8 hours necessary for optimal health.

BEST TIP I HAVE EVER RECEIVED.
I have always had insomnia and as I got older I would wake up every night between 2-3am. It got worse after my thyroidectomy. I thought it was because I had to go to the bathroom (I did). I started working with a functional nutritionist, and she asked me if I woke up between 2-3am. Ummmm, why yes I do! She said that my blood sugar was low, which sent my hormones out of whack, which woke me up. She suggested I started eating 1 heaping TB of honey when I woke up, so I did. And it has changed my life. Now when I wake up, I pee, then eat honey and I fall back asleep within 15 minutes. It’s magic! I also use Posh’s Sleepy Sleep and a squirt of Rescue Remedy sometimes which helps a ton, too. But honey is the answer! #glutenfree#autoimmunedisease#thyroiddisease#celiacdisease#insomnia#hormones#rescueremedy#poshsleepysleep
