  • The Easter weekend here is all about home and days spent in the paddocks and garden. The kids pitch the tent near the studio cottage, close enough to the house for security, far enough for adventure. Easter eggs are hidden through all corners of the garden, in the knots of timber fence posts, balanced in the forks of trees and cupped witihin robust flowers. The hunt usually involves extrication of an egg from the gentle jaws of Hugo (golden retriever doing his retrieving thing - he doesn't eat them, but just in case), and the usual amount of squabbling over inequities in the spoils.
This weekend we will be finishing new paddock fencing ready for lambing in spring, rejuvinating vege patch beds, and installing a gate on lovely old reclaimed fenceposts in the new cottage courtyard. Well, that's the plan...it will be punctuated by more-than-usual cups of tea and easter cooking, and the boring stuff like trips to the tip and overdue washing of stinky cadet camp gear forgotten from the end of term.
It seems right to spend Easter outdoors and in the garden, where the cycle of life around us is abundantly clear. There is a mix of busyness and stillness, forward thinking and reflection. I hope your weekend is a beautiful jumble of these things too! 😊🍁🍃

  • My floral installation from @womenandtheirwork’s Dream Scape @wtwbash a few weekends ago. I was clearly inspired by the color scheme and the impeccable interior design of the venue, @thedaphneaustin. The flowers were originally intended for a large oak out back, but I quickly shifted gears when it was clear the weather had different ideas. In the end, I think I like this design better than the original - the flowers made a huge visual impact as soon as you walked through the door. The goal of the event design was to transport guests to a wild dreamscape, and this installation was their entry point into the surreal. #taylorcumbiedesign
